Hog has the potential to be a strong character in OW2 already, but I notice he’s not that great as a tank. He essentially is just a third DPS character, and while that works in OW1 due to the second tank, it can’t work in OW2.
So, how do we make Roadhog more tanky? Here’s my idea:
Let his Take a breather skill cleanse debuffs on the start of the skill. If he’s purple due to ana, he can use TAB to fix it. as well as any other Debuff you’d want to add. This incentivizes hog to face tank damage the way he was intended to.
I’d also allow him to use TAB to cleanse stuns or sleep. Just a unique thing that’ll protect him from his hard counters while not making them irrelevant. If Ana nades too soon, Hog can cleanse it, but if hog recklessly TABs, she can get him.
The main issue might be him flanking and and players having no way to stop him, but I think that a flanking hog exposes his own team enough to justify this. Plus, he’d have to flank, and then never use TAB, and then successfully kill people while not using TAB until he’s stunned. I don’t think it’ll be as simple as him being able to flank for free.
Anyway, I’d like to see this in game to see if it works or not.
Remove him from the game, a tank that 1 shots you from 20m with such ease has no place in the game. If it’s something like Sigma rock, that you can dodge at mid range and you can’t at close range, it’s still a fair 1 shot. Hog 1 shot is too strong.
Hitbox large af too.
Or keep him low tier, a big part of why OW2 is so fun is that literally all the bullsh** heroes are low tier in OW2.
You can just tell me if you want them to remove hog. These changes would change change his identity enough to qualify as a new tank. Besides, I’m assuming you’d also ask for a breathing nerf if the healing radius actually proves effective.
Roadhog and Junk have a ‘Mad Max’ vibe. Why not give him a small make-shift personal shield to use as an ability blocker (like Brig) to add a skill-element to it beyond ‘just push tab to magically wake up’?
It could be a toggle between hook and shield similar to Mercy’s staff/pistol.
Well, the answer is that some skills just have to work, and the skill is when you use it and not what the skill does. Soldier can sprint when he wants, should he have some skill element to that? Maybe tap Shift at the right time, or you can’t run?
What about Reinhardt? He holds his shield out with no problem. Should we add a skill element to that?
Rein’s shield is, in a sense, his ‘weapon’ in the sense it enables his team by creating space. Comparing that to a Brig-style shield as a way for hog to be more viable as a solo tank by giving him a way to block critical abilities is a poor comparison at best…
Unfortunately, OW2 is almost purely brawl, and a poke hero like roadhog is just going to suck. That is the long and short of it. Everyone calls roadhog a brawler, but anyone who has put any amount of time into him will recognize that as extremely false.
If I were to change anything, I’d make it so TAB’s 50% damage resistance, also applies to Hog’s teammates if they’re within 8 meters of him while he’s using the ability. And the damage resistance will last 3 seconds once TAB is finished too. With this he can finally do something to actually help his teammates survive
Give him that fart cloud he had in that one experimental where it increased healing allies receive or they took less damage or whatever it did. He really needs something new, cause sure, he can be a chunky boi and soak up shots, but doesn’t do much else.
You mean the stuns only tanks have now? You mean a whole Rein ult? Hog just walks in, smokes everyone with his toxic gas and they wake up from an ult? Yeah, how about no.
This is what Zen’s ult should be doing. If Zen ults into a purple team, everyone is not purple anymore. Seriously, why is that not a thing already?
Why? That sounds stupid. He lands a hook and you just walk around with the thing dangling next to you? Also, without hook, he’s got nothing.
Make it so that the cool down for his hook is half during his ultimate. This allows him to abuse the f*** of his combo making his ultimate a massive threat and to be respected.
Out of all the tanks, I believe roadhog needs to temporarily have a 50% anti-heal resistance buff whenever he uses his heals before getting bio-nade. This means if he uses his heal before he get bio-nade, he only receive 50% healing. If he uses his heal after getting bio-nade, he will be deny healing 100%. So the timing is crucial for him, while giving some counterplay between him and ana’s bio-nade for both side.
Do you have different stuff as tab because last time I check tab is the info screen on what the 2 teams comps are your stats and what ults your team has
Also if hog is meta then stuff is getting thrown
Saw a video yesterday that mentioned how problematic it is to have channeled tank abilities, given that Sombra can just hack you from invisibility, and there’s basically nothing you can do about it.
This applies mostly to Kinetic Grasp and Take A Breather.
Heck, now that I think about it, Orisa is basically constantly able to knock Hog out of Hook and TaB.
Kinda makes me wonder if TaB should be a resource meter, instead of a cooldown.
Or change those abilities to count as “Transforms” instead of “Channels”.
Or just give CC/Debuff immunity for the duration.
Or near instantly give the health, and allow the ability to be selfcanceled.
Probably the easiest for Hog is just immunity from microstuns during his abilities, and to convert all of his channeled abilities into transforms.
Make him an actual tank instead of a fat DPS. I’d change his TAB to also give some kind of defensive buff to allies, like damage resistance or overhealth, with a nerf to his damage to compensate (being able to one shot while being all but immune to same is not a fun dynamic).
250dmg per shot, that’s the only way. He’s got sh*t defensive options and his only use he always had and was intended to have is damage and OHKO combo potential. Also, more damage on ulti so it isn’t a glorified Boop.
So, I said this before, but hog damage was still pretty good in OW2. Hog could flank, kill someone important, and then his team can move in to capitalize on that. The issue is that that’s all he has, and if your hog can’t land hook kills, what do you have?
