How do people have fun playing this?

This is a pretty serious question; how do people have fun playing this? I’ve been playing normal unranked matchmaking and almost every single game ends in an overwhelming victory for the enemy team, usually causing most of our team to just stay stuck in the respawn building. I don’t see how this is balanced when the ability to turn around a game is pretty unlikely when the enemy team has such an overwhelming advantage for most of the round. This game feels like Rock Paper Scissors, if your team doesn’t have super strong characters (Black man that shoots out of his hands, Rocket girl, Crazy psycho that can control gravity) then you have a very little chance of winning. I don’t see what is the point of most of these other characters, why play them? Just play as rocket girl or guy with big hammer and watch as you destroy your weaklings. The balance in this game is just wonky and bad.

Character balance plays a part, but I feel that it’s not nearly as important as the poor level of matchmaking going on. Take a look at this scoreboard where red team struggled to get one kill per minute:

qp-stomp-113

Tracer is potentially one of the strongest damage-dealing characters in the game and Reinhardt has the edge against my Zarya. It didn’t matter. The matchmaker sent red team out to die and that’s what happened.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is: it’s even worse than you think, because at least you can change characters. You can’t change matchmakers.

On the very basic level of play, the thing that often decides games is teamwork or the lack of it.

If your team stays together, that ups your chances of success.
Killing enemy supports ups your chance of success.

If your team scatters to all directions, it s going to be a bad game. Don’t take a 1v1 if you could be turning a 1v1 to a 1v2.
If youre on a flank and setting up to ult the enemy, crouch walking makes your footsteps quieter.

Use pings. Either ping the enemy you’re shooting at so others shoot them too, or ping an enemy who’s on their way to flank your team.
If you get killed by a sniper or a flanker, ping upon death. It pings the enemy that got the final blow on you, which is really good with snipers. As a smart player will know to avoid that sightline.

All of that will hopefully help a little.

Personally i find playing against near impossible odds very satisfying. A good long intense brawl that’s decided by a single mistake is where i thrive.
Enabling a clutch play with heals or other buffs is wonderful.
Or i just play a character that i enjoy.
Most people make fun of mercy players, but once you scout out several flankers and ruin their play with headshots from the sky. They suddenly aknowledge that you’re at least a little bit useful. Or want you dead because you suddenly appeared onto their high ground and farmed some headshots on them.

But some matches are just cursed. No changing that.
We can only do our best.

idk :woman_shrugging:

I doubt many people analyze why they find something enjoyable. It just is, at least for me.

Why even talk about balance when you’re so new you don’t know anyone’s NAME? This is a competitive game. Did you expect to just pick it up and roll people?

There’s always the possibility to make some nice plays.

Can’t say it better. :+1:
