How do I "git gud" as Tracer?

I know how to aim decently (it’s not 100%, but good enough). The question is, how do I be as effective as I can be as Tracer?

  • What is Tracer’s strategy on KOTH, Payload, etc.?

  • Who should I be going for (other than supports).

  • What do I do when the supports are being protected heavily?

  • When is a good time to switch off of Tracer (and who should I switch to?)?

  • What maps are the best for Tracer and which maps should I avoid playing her on?

  • How do I engage as Tracer? I know I’m supposed to flank, but when do I flank?

  • What am I supposed to do when the enemy team is focused on me, but my team doesn’t push up (should I just swap to a different hero?)?

Just some questions I’ve been wondering for a while. Thanks in advance!

  • harass the backline, pick isolated, spawncamp

  • isolated players, low health targets

  • keep harassing … it’s 2 players who need to focus you, sometime switch target

  • if you are hard countered, depends on the comp

  • she doesn’t depend so much on maps

  • when the enemy is buisy fighting your team

  • in my experiance switching doesn’t help if your team is full of idiots … but you can try of course

watch this guy

He plays a mean Tracer and he also has very good Tracer gamesense which i think is most important for best effectiveness. He also makes a lot of effort to explain his thought process throughout.

nothing to see right now

what who? Kabaji? if so he has videos for his past streams and he also has a youtube channel. I don’t play dps at all but even i enjoy his content. He’s super talented like getting top 50’ish with 150png in NA.

h, now it works …… was just a black screen before

Pew pew > blink > pew pew or recall if low health > blink > pew pew > ded

IF you lose the push at like 3m and all your teammates fall back, try to be sneaky and tripple blink on the payload (You see when there’s no enemy on the payload) much less efort to backcap 3m instead of fighting the enemy team for the point.

If you want to gitgud with tracer you need to learn how to empty a clip in to someone’s face. The rest of it comes with playing.

Piccolo has all the advice you need to git gud with tracer

Jokes aside. Seriously. Learning to dodge is one of the most vital skills you’ll acquire with her.

:spider_web: Focus priority, ability cool down management. Get godlike at those and you can get away with sub-optimal aim, imo.

Learn the distance of Blink, Feel the blink cd, and I manualy reload, whenever I blink, unless I know, I have enough left to finish. without reloading. Since during blink half the reload animation is complete.
Also whenever you’re trying to kill someone, and you clip is empty, meele. But don’t meele to often without reloading, since you need to do the reload animation otherwise you meele, try to reload, meele, try to reload and you’ll never reload.

some general advice 4 u:

  • remember that even if you arent getting kills, being a nuisance and harassing the enemy backline means you’re contributing
  • fight near health packs when u can
  • when you flank, make sure you dont just jump in alone, even if you see an isolated support. if its easy for their team to peel, you prolly wont get away. knowing when to engage is crucial to playing tracer well
  • learn maps. u gotta know where every single health pack is
  • learn how to blink effectively and unpredictably. this mostly just takes a lot of practice

Getting good at 180’s is probably the best technical skill you should learn. Blink through the enemy to force them to turn.

if you get low, pick up a health pack and recall, within 3 secs, you lose the health gained from the pack. (something worth to throw in here)

And yes thats true, Healthpack locations give you a addition with any hero. But tracer benefits a lot. (Especially with hacked health packs)

My Friend which mains D.Va didn’t know in the Eichenwalde Castle left to the highground of the last corner, there’s a small room with a Big Pack, he didn’t know this. I knew that since map release, bc It was my Big health pack at point C.

You can’t lose health from recall.

top tip: learn how not to die, other things far less important.

Health gained trough a healthpack within the 3sec of recall, you lose the health gained from that health pack. (80hp > health pack, hs from mccree > recall > 80hp)

Alright, take a Walmart squeaky toy and duct tape it to a time machine. That’s how you play tracer effectively.

On a real note, be as annoying as possible In all situations.

you don’t lose health gained through healthpacks no matter how soon you recall
