How do I get better at widowmaker?

I am a dps main stuck at 2900 and peaked at 3100. I feel as though my widow skills are average and I practice a lot, but I can’t carry with her. I can usually beat out other widows in a 1v1 but I just can’t seem to kill the rest of their team. I play a lot of widow hs only and usually place around 4th or 5th (like 8th when there are gm’s in the match) Should I just give up on widow? I use 1000dpi, 4.8 sens, and a 42 scoped sens.Give any tips or anything because I am struggling to get better.

I don’t know. I feel like one of the many who can’t play here while many others wipe out half a team by themselves.

Try flicking targets in the practice range or custom games or try changing your sensitivity? Also check out my recent post about trying to improve in Overwatch.

positioning. A snipers skill is 90% crosshair placement/positioning and 10% aim. If you position yourself in good places your kills will increase significantly. E.G. don’t stand so the entire enemy team have a los on you. Expose yourself to as little targets as you can. Also prioritize targets, you see a healer. Kill them. You see a widow, kill the widow then go back to the healers. Don’t tunnel vision one place keep your eyes open. You kill 1 target unscope, scan rescope.

Easy kills

-Get a massive mousepad for lots of room on low sensitivity (qck+ is a good cheap one)
-Get a good mouse with the PMW3366 sensor, or better. Anything worse will not have perfectly accurate tracking.
-A 144hz + monitor w/ 1ms response with a PC that can handle it goes a long way.
-If you are on a laptop you are at a disadvantage

If you have all of that, or can’t afford it and are willing to take the disadvantage then:

-Practice in competitive play or in a competitive environment
-Watch widow gameplay from pros to know proper positioning (Which will help you practice your aim in the long run)
-Edit: Put all settings on the lowest, except for resolution scale. Things like shadows or highly detailed textures will distract you even if you think they don’t.

Yeah, this. To add on…

OP: Because of the hilariously broken movement mechanics in Overwatch you really have to be shooting at unaware or predictably moving targets to get consistent crits on Widow.

It’s actually kind of annoying how the “Just click their heads” meme floats around the community so much.

The only shots on Widow that are important to hit are the easy ones. And if you’re not getting easy shots you’re doing it wrong (or your team is horribly feeding).

Time and patients are the biggest ones😁

Practice those shots all the time. Took me a while, but I did it❤️

Uninstall the game and go play fortnite please I want to play the game

No such thing as improving with Widow. All the people in GM and T500 already had insane aim.

dont always go for headshots if you see someone with low hp a full charged bodyshot will be more than enough to finish them off

Ive got almost 700 hours on her. Everything you said is true. TBH and fair. Comp is too niche for Widow. 98% of comp teams will report a Widow player as a thrower. Its sad that snipers are not viable in comp and nobody will ever build around her. Even though there are amazing sniper players out there, that could really swing a game.

Ahem.
The best Widowmakers know their counters and know where to position themselves, so they have a lot of map coverage as well as being secure.
