This season I was placed at 1333 after my placements despite doing much better, in my opinion. Since then, I’ve been trying to climb out of Bronze, and got up to 1459 at one point, before going on a losing streak due to a disproportionately large number of people throwing (staying in spawn just moving slightly to avoid timing out, or running directly into enemies without even shooting, or picking a hero that both they are terrible at and is useless in the situation)
I’m a Moira main, I tend to balance damage and healing quite well, in nearly all my games I get Gold Eliminations and in probably 2/3 I get gold healing. According to Overbuff (I know not the best for determining anything but this is one time I feel that it is quite accurate) I have an E:D of around 3.
The problem comes in that I need to solo queue. The only time I can ever team is when I get lucky and people in my matches do well enough that they want to stay as a team, so I mostly solo queue.
I don’t believe I belong in Bronze. Maybe not gold, but most definitely mid to high silver. How do I climb out of Bronze? I’m just getting seriously frustrated because nearly every win is countered by a loss from somebody throwing or poor team cohesion.
Does anybody have any tips, because I’m getting seriously frustrated at this point.
EDIT: It has been made abundantly clear to me due to everybody’s amazing tips, that much of my failure is my own. Thank you everybody for the help, and I would appreciate it if everybody would continue to help me become better.
If anybody has any video examples of good moira play that I could learn from that would be nice.
If you really think you are good enough to be in gold. Pick a carry like tracer or gengu and go to town. That’s how I did it on my first account (i know my second is higher than my first). SgtPingu#1806
Is in bronze, first recommendation is to play two of the most mechanically difficult heroes…
Keep playing Moira, but you really need to focus on healing more. You need to do more than double the healing per game that you currently have. Moira is a healer 1st, DPS 2nd. Get your healing higher and you will see some results.
While I am decent at Tracer and some other DPS characters, my best hero, and the one which helps the team the most, is Moira. I’m just frustrated because nobody will work as a team, and so I’m unable to win the majority of matches, and so I’m unable to rank up consistantly.
The short answer to climb out of bronze is to play better than a bronze player. Eliminations with Moira doesn’t mean anything. 3:1 with her is actually not very good. Additionally, she is a main healer so getting gold healing only 66% of the time is also not very good. It sounds to me like you are dying too much and aren’t healing enough.
I do believe I play much better than bronze players, but when I have a team who won’t cooperate my E:D will be lower. When teams work with me, I’ll often get killstreaks above 10.
It’s difficult to get out not because of skill, overbuff says I have on average 3.32 golds per game, it’s because teams never cooperate.
Problem with a Moira in Bronze is that her healing is most effective when your team isngrouped up. Bronze doesn’t do this. Zen is more effective because both orbs help with duels and can be applied far away. Moira will be better after Bronze.
Moira has enough mobility to move around and do the healing, Zen doesn’t do nearly enough, and LoS has a massive affect on him. Zen as a secondary healer yes, but considering this guy already mains Moira, work at improving that.
As a fellow bronzie who’s currently working on improving as healer myself (Moira/Zen mostly):
Try to improve your mechanical skills. For Moira, I’d say that you want to get your Fade spot on. Do you know how to quickly fade from open space to the nearest obstacle for cover? Do you know which gaps you can jump with Fade? Can you Fade reliably in all directions? How’re your 90 & 180 turns for dealing with flankers and enemies coming from behind? When using Coalescence, is your aiming on point or do you keep missing friendlies/enemies?
Try to learn better positioning. That’s using the map effectively to seek cover. Knowing all the routes to get from A-to-B. Staying in the “right” spot behind your team, where you can heal them, but also pick out enemies using your Biotic Grasp.
As a Bronze player, I often spot Moiras when playing Zen that don’t (yet) know that:
You can self-heal by sending out a healing orb in front of you while walking forward at the same time.
You can eliminate even heavier targets by sending out a damage orb towards them first and then you get them with your Biotic Grasp. Bonus points if you do: orb, fade behind them & turn, then use grasp.
I’ve got all this down. My main issue is actually knowing when to use damage orbs and when to use healing (I just default on damage unless people around me need healing, I should probably change that). My big issue I think is positioning, especially with coalescence. I’m often only able to use it on two or three enemies/teammates at once, and I always forget to take out enemy healers before I use it (I keep using it as a way to remove enemy healers, rather than waiting for it to be more effective by removing them first)
This is the first thing I thought when I read you were playing Moria in bronze, Zen can carry at lower levels, if you got some of your team on comms just call out what you discord. If heals are in a bad place Mercy has the best sustain single target healing. Key with her is find whoever you see the most on the kill feed and pocket them.
Using Fade just to get into deal range of your team is not so wise if needed for evading enemy fire. Zen just helps frag so much better but if your team picked a lot of tanks than sure, Moiras fine. Lucio good too.
No Zen is not a replacement for Moria, he is just a better choice if you want to DPS heal. Moria gives you the feeling that you can be an off DPS when she is in fact a main healer. If your team is not grouping up she is a poor choice, however getting picks and adding a ton of weight to your DPS is something Zen does so much better then Moria.
Discord orbs + DPS players mean dead tanks, Moria can’t touch tanks.
Because Bronze is a unique beast based on player mentality and capability. Moira is a great character. But if he can’t get out if Bronze with her than yes, he needs to step it up to a Gold+ Moira play, OR, pick a character better suited for the tier. In Brine, contributing to kills is more important than heals overall generally. The team that kills faster, requires less healing. Zen does both. I’d at least recommend picking him up as an alternate support, especially if someone else picks Moira.
Watch Emongg or FRAN on Twitch. Emongg is a pro-gamer and FRAN plays a lot of Overwatch too. Both of them experience massive losing streaks as well. It’s normal. You make up for them simply by playing more.
