I’v been struggling to find the right sensitivity for forever now, any help?
I remember playing mass effect 3 and randomly thinking it would be a good time to start adjusting my sensitivity while on a single player game and getting used to it, the idea is that you will have better accuracy on PC with a lower sensitivity so you don’t constantly over shoot your aim, if your sensitivity is high then it’s most likely that it will be very jittery when in CQC such as if you’re playing Tracer.
What I ended up doing was slowly going down bit by bit, as if you do that then you won’t actually notice much of a change and it will just seem like normal, you will slowly end up having to swipe more over time until it just feels natural, I remember when I could 360 with limited wrist movement, now my wrist only movement only allows me to do a 90 degree turn which has massively improved my aim tracking and allowed for arm swipes to adjust my aim when needed.
So my advice is to try that, keep slowly going down until you find that right spot, my suggestion would be what I’ve done with wrist movement allowing up to 90 degree turn.
I kept lowering mine until I ran out of physical room to move my arm. I even bought a bigger mouse pad. Then, months later, I started to realize that my sensitivity was so low it was holding me back. I was getting shoulder pain after long game sessions, and I was becoming lazy in game. I would skip looking around and checking behind me because there probably wasn’t anyone there. This was all subconscious mind you, but I was still doing it. When I realized that, I moved my sensitivity up a bit.
Long winded point(s), it’s very personal. You have to find what works for you. Also, you don’t have to keep pushing it lower and lower, it can even hurt if you go too low.
I currently play at 800 3.9, but I constantly have the urge to change it thinking theres a better sens
Started at 800 dpi and 10 in-game sense. Kept lowering and lowering it overtime, got a new mousepad with less friction and ended up with 700 dpi and 5 in-game sens.
For a while I used different sensitivities for different heroes but it eventually became annoying when switching heroes and roles.
For me it was just trial and error. I started higher and kept working my way down when I felt it wasn’t helping. Like if I was playing a match and had a moment like “woulda killed that guy if I had slower sens” I would just lower it. I lowered it by like 0.25-0.50 each time.
I just lowered it once in a while until I felt like it worked. I started at 8 sensitivity (800 DPI, 38 scoped), and over the last 2 years, I lowered it to 7, then 6, then 5.5, and finally settled on 5.3. I started at a ~low-gold (like 45 SR in season 1?) level with 8 sens and was playing Widow at a high master level at my peak with 5.5 sens.
It’s just a matter of noticing with every miss whether you’re over- or under-shooting, determining whether the problem is your sensitivity or your mechanical skill itself, and adjusting from there. If you find that your aim is jittery or very streaky/inconsistent/rough, you might need to lower your sens, and if you have trouble adjusting your aim quickly or are uncomfortable with how much you have to move your arm at lower sensitivities, you might need to raise your sens.
As long as your sensitivity is within a reasonable range, though, you can often make it work by consciously changing how you move your fingers, wrist, and arm rather than by continuing to change your sensitivity. I’d recommend finding a sens that feels relatively nice to you (and isn’t too high), and sticking with it for a long time while working on your technique itself. You might adjust once you have a good feel for how to use that sens, but the most important part of the equation is you, not your sensitivity (again, within reason).
