How did you come up with you character/characters of choice

the objective of this topic is simple explain why you like/use the character or characters ya do play with on here.
there is just one rule though which is no bashing others!!! for charcter/characters of choice

i will start off on this:

D.va: when i 1st started playing she was recommended to me by a Aussie friend who had already stated playing the game adn this was back when the game 1st came out and before i had a BT… D.va is easy to play while also being cute and has a interesting personality

Tracer: this may seem odd but when i 1st started playing the game i hated Tracer but when i started out playing DPS back before role queue was a thing and both tank and support was taken she was the only DPS that ended up clicking with me and as i played with her she ended up growing on me and i ended up falling in love with her personality and play style

Mercy: ive sadly always been a sucker for the caring types but also it feels good to help someone sometimes…im not really good as support though

Mei: while she can be annoying i do have a soft side for her after watching the rise and shine which dang near made me cry

Zen: Liked the idea of discord. One of the first characters I played.

Rein: No one would play tank in early OW1, so I did.

Lucio: Wanted to learn more about how my supports would think.

Mercy: Mass Rez was strong lol. I felt bad for not playing the best support for my team.

Bastion: Funny robot go BRRRR in sentry mode.

Junkrat: I liked spamming choke and seeing people get mad in chat.

Ramattra: I really liked how his playstyle looked. Fell in love as soon as I played him. (Even with his ultimate not working due to a bug ocassionally)

Reinhardt: He was the best tank for metal ranks back in the day and nobody wanted to pick him so I always did. Plus being someone who loved Elder Scrolls, the classic paladin type design was cool.

Genji: I’ve always liked hyper-mobile characters in games and Genji was a good fit. Cyborg ninja is just really cool too

Lucio: Same as Genji. Hyper mobile and the DPS Lucio playstyle is so fun

JQ: I just felt really good playing her when she came out. Her playstyle feels similar to Rein except with a gun.

These are my thoughts from when the game first launched.

Tracer: She was unlike any other damage character I’d ever played in any game. McCree was just revolver dude, been there done that in Red Dead. Soldier was just generic shooty dude, been there done that in many games. Pharah was flying rocket lady, had done that in Unreal Tournament and Quake.

Ana: Was challenging and exciting and gave you a thrill when compared to the other supports.

Zarya: I loved the idea of the bubbles, both for protection of myself and of teammates. Charging up your beam is always so much fun when things melt in front of you.

Junkrat: He is so much fun and exploding people makes me laugh even years after first playing him, even when I die it’s still funny. I love setting up traps for people as well and watching them fall for it/react to realizing they were duped. The other thing I really like is jumpscaring people who have no idea I’m jumping down on their heads or around the corner WAITING.

He also has a really cute/positive attitude and snacks. The man doesn’t have any like EPIC amazing skins, but they’re all kind of silly and fun which I enjoy either way. (His Beachrat is the best skin for him fight me)

The interactions from people are 50/50 my team loves me and the enemy team hates me, but everyone is pretty friendly to me (maybe because of my very non serious name too)

I play other characters, but he’s my only one that matters.

Edit: I also love fighting other Junkrats because it becomes a very personal fight! 2 Junkrats enter, 1 Junkrat leaves!

D^:< There can only be one! And it’s going to be me, baby! :rat: :bomb: :rat:

Mercy: I played a lot of Medic from TF2.

D.va: Flying around deleting projectiles and soaking damage was always fun.

Ramattra: Dual forms are neat, and gives variety.

JQ: Reminds me of Valkyr, and I’m a huge fan of her - even if I play mainly solo. I’m just bad at tanking.

Mei: My go-to when I’m tilted on support, her abilities are so satisfying to use, except wall. I can’t make good walls.

Ana: She’s me if I was in the game but I can’t aim so she’s useless when I use her.

Tracer: Timey Wimey motion sickness. She’s neat though, I just can’t aim. (No I don’t get motion sick).

Most of the characters I play were based off a whim, then I learned them.

Hanzo was because I was an Archer for a good time myself when OW1 launched.
Junk because haha bomb go boom.
Rein, Ram and Doom because me like to get close and smack things.
Bastion go brrrrrrr.

Ana: When I first played Overwatch, they hadn’t implemented role queue yet, meaning you’d often see matches where everyone insta-locked dps. I felt compelled to play what’s needed in order to not entirely throw the match and at the time, the only supports in the game were Zen (who doesn’t heal for much), Mercy (who I don’t enjoy playing), Lucio, Moira and Ana. Lucio doesn’t have enough heals to solo support and with Moira I always ended up getting my wires crossed because my shooter experience keeps telling me to left click if I want to hurt people.
I felt more at home with Ana because she could right click to scope in and because her kit felt more responsive and impactful compared to many other supports (the fast burst healing, the massive impact that an anti-nade can have on a teamfight, etc). She just felt good to play.

Frankly, not sure if I’ve got another definite main. I usually play Kiriko or Bap when someone else is on Ana. When I play tank I enjoy Sigma, Orisa, Ramattra and JQ, but my pick there depends a lot on the map and sometimes on the enemy tank (for instance, I’m not gonna play Ramattra into Roadhog because it just feels like you cannot kill him).

And really, I don’t think I play enough dps to even have anything resembling a main.

Widow: I’ve always liked picking off enemies at long range, plus she has a play style that’s familiar. I also like her dark sense of humor.

Mercy: Oddly enough I started picking Mercy because I find support more rewarding. I want to help my team. :innocent:

Junkerqueen (Took the place of sigma tho I still switch to him because they compliment each other in my hero roster), she is unpredictable, she’s underated, her tic tic tic just makes my brain so happy so happy in fact that I got REAAAALLLY good at doing it, my “Bleed dance” trick Essentially makes me a roadhog, and also she fits my playstyle of being a shot caller, people know how long the cool down is, when I shout I want something then and there! Or maybe Im using it to save a teammate or for orisa ult, no matter what I make it clear I AM the leader. You are in the house of the queen and you will treat me with respect, my word is law. I even got a ps message 1 time people actually love a tank who takes charge. She fits my “Cringey” child like insane playstyle and coms sooo well

Sombra I simply like the hero, the aesthetic the everything, shes improved my mental a lot as well from all the insults I get playing her from both ends, she helps me understand people and there mindsets, the absolute dumbest people are people who ult without emp it’s the easiest argument to win, if you ult without emp after your sombra calls for it and you don’t get “Insane value” you are legitmeatly throwing I’ve had so many people trying to justify wasting the most powerful abilities in the game without being enabled first, plus she can heal herself and I don’t really have to rely on other people.

Baptiste, My absolute main bap is when I am on bap I AM the leader! I have insanely good healing, insanely good abilities, and insanely good dps, Im the one in charge of keeping my team alive, as well as viewing the map and keeping track of things, my tanks busy on the frontline he has no time to worry about things like supports ult charge hes worried about the other tanks ult charge, being a support I know until I die the fight is not over I have the most control and knowledge in the game, I can tell you what Im capable of and what I am not capable of in that moment (weather you listen is a different story). This is why I love Baptiste I can do all this while also providing insane value from my team.

D.va: she was the only tank that really caught my attention when i was new to overwatch back in 2017, she’s the only tank i’ve been able to climb to plat in ow1.

I feel like i’m playing best with her as well.

Ashe: I say this often and i believe this is true, but thanks to being a onetrick widow before i pretty much easily mastered ashe when she was added to the ptr and later into qp and comp, i was instantly good at hitting her dynamite as well.

She’s one of the most fun dps there is in this game.

Soldier: He was pretty easy to pick up and start playing, and i enjoy his mobility with sprint.

Hanzo: i’ve always thought bows and arrows were really cool and he can be really fun to play sometimes, plus he’s hot

Widow: before playing ow i was always so jelaous of ppl being very good with widow, so i decided to put that challange on myself and become good with her. And even tho i recieved death threats and reports in ow1, she’s been so much fun to play and now i kinda feel proud that i’m able to hit shots in the air

So ever since then i’ve had her on my dps list when i feel like playing her sometimes, she’s really fun!

Sombra: eh i just like to play her sometimes just to mess with the enemy

Mercy: I just love her, i’m obsessed with her and she’s just super fun to play as as well (wish they could revert her GA tho)

Moira: she’s simple and i like that, sometimes it’s also just fun sucking out lives on genjis and see them struggle :laughing:

Kiriko: Even tho her kunai’s are hard to hit with i just think she’s fun to play as.

on my original account (i wont go into detail what happened) i did try playing cree he didnt work for me but hey everyone has a certain playstyle/kit that works for everyone as for Zarya i know im not good with her but ive seen people play her to excellence

I just find the character relatable, I too like animals and nature and want to mow down all of humanity with a minigun.

Tanks :
First Tanks were Dva and Orisa that just came out when I Started to play.
I play one or another depending what second tank we had.

The, they gutted Dva’s defensive capabilities and I basically instalocked Orisa everytime I was an tank.
Meanwhike I was trying out seriously the other ones. Making me an Orisa/Zarya tank.
Nowadays, they are still my gals, but sometimes, I use my Sigma Pockeball so I can hear the universe singing for me.

Dps :
Can’t say that Mei is my gal because she is my lovely guilty pleasure.
I sometimes go… forget it.
Mei is all I need for my DPS needs. I regret she can’t freeze. The feeling you icycle headshot right after a freeze is awesome

Support.
When she came out, Mercy get retired. Because Moira is what I like in a gameplay : dynamic, she can be on 2 fronts at the same time and she can bully genjis’.
Sometime, mercy, lucio or kiriko are out depending on the comp of the team, but I will go Moira all the way

Torb because I constantly need to summon another player to maybe make it a 2 vs. 5.

…the primary fire has to ‘feel’ right/natural to use…that’s literally it…

I’m really not sure what got me into playing Mercy. I just noticed one day that I played her the most and went “huh, cool.” Then I started climbing and seeing that with how I play her, I can get good value off it. To this day I default to her without really thinking about it much, even if for the past year or so I’ve hated playing her. It’s felt like an eternal hopeless battle against not feeling like my actions actually contribute to anything. It was like I kept waiting for everyone else to do something until I managed to get valk. Though since the recent buffs/nerfs, I’ve actually enjoyed her a little more. I’ve had some of the most fun playing Mercy that I’ve had in a long time.

As for my other main… I started playing Hanzo as a joke. He was a known throw pick in the early days, at least for meme’s sake. I had someone who was flaming me on Zenyatta, so I went Hanzo in spite and ended up having a ton of fun. I had gotten a 6 man my first game with him and that feeling was so exciting that I just wanted to keep playing him. To this day I have the most fun when playing Hanzo. I love his character, his kit and his design. I don’t think I really cared if I was climbing on him or not, I was having a ton of fun and that’s what mattered to me.

I started as Mercy / Junkrat and Pharah since I was coming from Team Fortress 2.

I wanna play heroes that reward decision rather than mechanics so I wanna play Queen and Sombra but people are always unforgiving. I wanna play Ana but it seems I miss something about her to carry properly.

I end up with Moira. Its the hero I have the best stats and the best feeling with.
She kinda grew on me as I’ve learned the timings to avoid Dva or Rein ultimates with her and I like to optimize my orbs (no dirty jokes intended).

Brig: i literally watched a brig is underated video back in season 20 by stylosa and saw how leaderboards were dominated by violet and thought oh :poop: i should probably main her which was honestly the best decision ever ended up getting masters in 2 seasons and gm in 5

Mercy: at the end of season 26 i got pissed off and decided that im going to start abusing mercy at the start of season 27 because of how strong she was in console gm and double sheild and still to this day use this hero for free sr
