I mean how int he world did he end up going live like this? How is THAT possible?
Skill for skill a Doomfist loses 100% of the time…when exactly did he perform at a level that said he was ready for launch?
Has anyone even seen him played well AGAINST AN OPPONENT OF EQUAL SKILL?

How did Sojourn? How did Zarya?
The answer is a combination of incompetence and the devs simply running out of time due to an arbitrary release date.

Im actually not even sure they tested it and just released it prematurely for business reasons at this point.

Doom’s so weird to me, like I had two archetypes for Tankfist in my head and the devs did neither.
I don’t think my expectations were that strange either. I was guessing he’d either be hypermobile and his damage would be gutted to offset his disruptive power putting him in a similar category as Ball, or they’d give him some self or team mitigation, gut his mobility and keep him a massive threat if/when he closes that gap like Hog or Rein.
Instead he’s got mid mobility, bad self sustain, bad damage. Wild.

wish they would have done this. pretty big gameplay-narrative dissonance for DOOMFIST - mr “evolve through conflict” big bad main villain with a building leveling weapon - is a wimpy hit and run dive tank.
Should gut his mobility and buff his damage and durability
They didn’t test it. OW2 is technically still in early access.

Doom was fine before they took away his slow on seismic slam, because god forbid Ana ever be a bad pick in any situation. They moved him to the tank role so he could keep his CC, only to take away most of it anyway.

Doom was in a better state in the beta. He got screwed over by the slam slow removal, devs have even acknowledged this but still buff everything except slam for whatever reason. Beta 2 buffs made things better after that nerf but he is still basically an empowered bot and the season 2 buffs are just going to encourage it even more unfortunately.
Slam slow was removed for a dumb reason too, they felt he was too oppressive still because he could stack the slam slow with his ult. Because investing an entire ult + an ability just to kill one squishy was too much apparently so they had to just butcher the entire ability with nothing to compensate.
Slam is just a tickle button that gives Doom shields now, it’s main use is canceling it for more mobility… bring the slow back and it will solve a lot of issues before they even need to consider looking at his other abilities. Slam having a slow effect not only encourages his teammates to follow him more, but his DPS will be more consistent since his gun will be easier to land hits on when you slam in and people will have a harder time dodging your punch as well.

Blizzard is well known for not playing their own games lol

Don’t forget they’ve done pretty much nothing but nerf him overall since the beta as well.
Power block was blocking too much damage and got nerfed from 90% to 80%
And slam lost the slow effect it had entirely.
doom is only one small buff from being strong counter meta
I personally feel doom has too many hard counters to his gameplay for this ever really be a thing outside of specific niche situations. A lot of the “tech” that made him half decent during the beta was removed- and is very unlikely to comeback.
His overall playstyle is too easily shutdown currently by an appreciable portion of the cast from multiple roles, and the whole concept of a “displacement tank” within the actual context for the environment we’ve seen ow2 shift towards just isn’t that good in the majority of realistic situations.
Nearly all the tanks have been turned into brawler / bruisers - Doomfist has traded the overwhelming majority of his damage potential to have what is essentially a lucio boop that can’t be aimed.
It’s not a good combo and I feel his actual gameplay loop / play style concept needs some big tweaking to fit in overwatch 2.

You’d have to ask the content creators that were whispering in Geoff Goodman’s ears all summer.
Remember that they thought that 90% reduction on block, while being incapable of blocking CC was too op.
Remember that they removed the ability to expose your own head to headshots, in order to block more damage with it to get punch faster
While they were doing that, they also removed the slow on slam.
ALL OF THIS HAPPENING WHILE HIS CHARGED PUNCH DEALS THE SAME AS A MELEE

I still don’t understand why Power Block doesn’t, y’know, block CC such as Sleep Dart. I’m not even a Doom player but the interaction feels wrong.

He is not as bad as people make him out to be, for the lower ranks it is more of a skill issue. I don’t think they will be able to make anyone happy, buff’s wont make him much better in lower ranks, and another rework will make Doom mains angry. So few people enjoy playing him or playing with/against him maybe another rework is the answer.
its so funny when i play ana and see a doomfist because ik he cannot even stop the dart thats coming so he gets to sleep while we just slaughter his entire team over and over and over.

Unpopular opinion: dooms actually fun and they did a really good job reworking him.
displacing the enemy tank is dooms job and he does it the best. punch has a ton of counter play now and feels even more satisfying to hit. Block is not for mitigating, it’s your rocket punch, It’s on 7 second Cooldown.
It’s not like they want season 1 of ow2 to be doomfist meta but trust doom will get his moment
