With crossplay coming, i’m assuming pc will still be able to type in chat, then console players can see that but not interact with it? My idea to allow all players to use this would be the create an app. it connects to the players console, the app can allow switching between player, group, team, match and all chat like PC, and you just type from the keyboard, and it sends to game chat. now i know nothing about game development or anything like how to make this, or how long,but i think something like that could work for console players to use a chat like pc

There’s actually a fancy mechanic.
Only PC is allows to see what other PC players have typed.
If this doesn’t happen (like… why lol), then I’m game for disabling chat altogether.

There exist a keyboard extension for Xbox controllers (called Megadream or something) that allow them to type just like a keyboard.
The problem is that literally, nobody buys this.

I bought it but I never was able to type in chat back when I was on xbox so that must have been somewhat recent

Well you could type if you hold touchpad like in Apex or Fortnite, but it would be very slow
I like this idea. An app for people who want it.
Could this be a part of the battle to messaging system? To reduce the development time?
I would not use it. But I recognise it’s a nice idea.
It’ll probably be like DBD. Only pc players can see chat

theres no way to pull up the chat on console (used to play overwatch on ps4) even with a keyboard. its locked
In Paladins you can call up/use the text chat before and after the match. 
i mainly just want all chat to be removed besides group chat and team chat. the only exception for team chat is for the “No.” and the “I need healing!” comms
I definitely think some sort of app or external way to type in text chat would be the best way to go for console.
If they don’t want to do that it could work to allow console players to type using the keyboard menu comes up on screen which is used across all other parts of the console, but only allow it on the main menu or in between rounds since it’s extremely slow to type and would be really disruptive during the game.

Chatting to your team should be the only option. And that is what your mic is for.

I play support…if chat will be removed, there will be no calls, no communication…
I am also on EU - you really think everyone here can speak english? voice com wheel is for some people the only option.
Thats what team chat is for.
I am in EU too… And no not everyone speaks English (it isn’t even in the top 3 most spoken languages. (hence the EU changing their business language to French later this year)).
Text chat between you and your team is fine.
The orange match chat is unnecessary and should be removed.

It is, but I like to chat with other team. I made a few friends like this.
Good stories happen. But sadly it is mostly abusive, trolling or complete drivel. If it wasn’t there, it wouldn’t make games worse…
AFA info on the matter goes: There won’t be any hardware changes regarding this. PC players can still type in the chat just like they could before while console players won’t be having this function available for them most likely due to hardware restrictions and difficulties since there isn’t an official console keyboard you can plug in universally between all consoles. So yeah PC players can type and console players can only read
