Since launch, we have characters that speak in a native tongue whether it be from a voiceline, random events, and ultimate lines. Why doesn’t Reinhardt, Pharah, Reaper, Torbjorn, Doomfist, Orisa, and Hanzo speak from where they are from. Yes, I know Hanzo has one for his ult, but it’s not like Genji where he speaks Japanese. Reinhardt’s from Germany and no German, but Mercy gets German voicelines. Pharah’s from Egypt and no Arabic, but Ana gets Arabic voicelines. Torbjorn’s from Sweden and no Swedish, but no Brigitte. Reaper is Mexican and has no Spanish, but Sombra gets Spanish. Orisa and Doomfist are from Numbani (Wikipedia says in Africa, near Nigeria) and no other language. Doomfist and Orisa can be different if Numbani is an English only speaking city, but not for the rest of the people here. I feel like they should add some voicelines, like they did with Symmetra and Lucio. Just to add that authenticity to the characters. I feel like that is representation for others, but I think they would like their mains spoke in their native tongue a little bit.
the voiceactors simply cant.
reins and afaik torbs are both american who just emulate the accent.
same goes for lucio i think, but he actually made the effort to learn some
portugese for his ult.
(and btw reaper is american. he may have mexican roots but he himself is US american)
easy, their voice actors don’t speak that language
Maybe Effi forgot to program Orisa with a second language? :’)
same reason why i don’t write in my native tongue right now
so you can understand what i’m saying
Might come in the future, but it’s not easy for the voice actors to learn an entirely new language so proficient that they sound native. So it’s better to stick to English. Torb per example is voiced by a native English speaker, while Brigitte is voiced by a native Swedish speaker, so it’s easy for her to voice Swedish lines.
There might be some native voices coming in the future, but I don’t think it’ll be too soon, the poor bloke voicing Torb has to learn a Scandinavian accent, and that’s quite difficult to get it to sound right.
When Ana “died”, i presume Pharah lived with her father. She’s probably more Canadian than Egyptian.
Reaper is american.
PS: Come to think of it. Since Ana’s job has her constantly on the field, Pharah probably was raised more by her father even when Ana was “alive”.
Cuz they started hiring native speakers for the new heroes much later after the game was released.
They didn’t have to do it but they did it anyway.
Reaper is Hispanic, not Mexican, there’s a difference.
For some you can probably give a lore reason, like Pharah has probably spent most of her time in the military where the go-to language is English that she barely can speak Arabic. Maybe Ana never even taught her Arabic, who knows.
But realistically, it’s likely mostly because they couldn’t find a suitable voice actor/actress who can speak said language well enough.
