I still have 2k legacy coins I’m looking to spend on halloween skins. The Flying Dutchman skin has the Halloween icon and says “Sometimes available in the Shop”. When would that time be if not during the Halloween Event? It seems like even the Halloween skins that DO have a price are all in the new Overwatch Coins, including legacy skins like Pharah’s Enchanted Armor. What’s up with that? Can I convert legacy to the new coins or vice versa? Basically is there a guide to this shop because I’m lost af trying to get a cool Sigma skin/any Halloween skins really.
You hwve to spend that hard earmed cash pretty simple and sad
As far as I can tell, Blizzard does not let you buy old event cosmetics with legacy credits (unless its somehow a bug).
They are literally putting a new paywall on old content that was available for free before.
You have to wait for them to be available in the shop. Either in the “featured” section next week (If they decide to put it in there) or randomly in your “Just for you” section. There’s not really any way of telling when it will be available.
Well that’s… confusing. Looks like I’ve got to get grinding the new ones, because I’m at 110 lmao. Hopefully they patch the bug, because I don’t see a way to purchase a few of the old Halloween skins, even with the new coins.
You can’t buy legendary skins with legacy coins.
You will be grinding for years until you have enough to afford 1 skin, bud.
You can get 60 coins per week at max by doing weekly challenges.
That’s around 3,120~ per year, do challenges every week without fail.
The cost of a legendary skin is 1,900 , so It will take you nearly a year to get enough to get it for free.
and also-- it most likely isn’t a bug
You can’t grind the new ones buddy.
You’re capped at 60 coins per week.
It would quite literally take you two YEARS to ‘grind’ the currency for just one new skin.
Do yourself a favor: Uninstall.

That feels too long for a skin, no? Is there alternative means of farming? If not, how are we supposed to get them? Surely they’ll be adding way more than we could ever earn at 1.5/yr
Yes that’s why there is review bombing and the forums are melting down.
no
They expect players to pay outrageous sums of real money
We don’t know.
That would have bought 2 legendary skins that were over a year old or more in OW1. Not even sure you can buy a skin at that price even with legacy coins.
Every 5 days apparently the shop refreshes and will change its inventory. Ugh.
Nope. Of course not.
Actually it should. When you go to purchase it will pop up for a choice.
Yes, you can. I did. I bought Kiriko’s legendary skins with legacy coins a week ago.
This is a large part of why so many people are pissed. It is very unrewarding to grind, which forces players to buy. Which was their greed model all over again.
Who knows with Blizzard at this point.
Something inside me hopes that Blizzard listens to our feedback and makes the game more friendly to free players in terms of unlocking cosmetics.
I wanna go back to Overwatch 1.
If this was going to be the outcome, I’d much rather have just paid the $60 or whatever OW1 was and be able to grind skins freely. If this new shop style is going to be the status quo, that’s deflating. What a huge step backwards for Overwatch…
More like a huge slap in the face, but yet.
Don’t get me wrong. I totally get that they need to still be able to earn money on the game.
But at the current method, they are only going to drive away players that would have otherwise spent some money.
Even a few streamers are seeing this. I was watching a Flat’s video where he talked about how the shop is basically going to price itself out of business eventually. Much more likely to retain buying customers if the prices are at a more reasonable level.
As he put it (paraphrased):
- You could sell to 50 customers and charge them 100 an item and make 5 grand once.
- You could sell to 100 customers and charge them 50 an item and STILL make 5 grand but maybe two or even three times each person.
- You could sell to 500 players and charge them 10 an item and still make 5 grand, but now you will get a lot of repeat buyers which means you will make more money in the long run.
Its not hard to figure out. Basic economics. Keep in mind, they only need to create the item they are selling ONCE. They can sell it as often as they like. Its not like they have to KEEP making it over and over again, like a physical item!
I didn’t use all my currency in OW1 because I knew that it would be usable on the 3 new characters in OW2 for their standard stuff, so I decided to wait and see what was available on the 3 new ones and if I didn’t like anything I would just use them up and redeem ofher stuff from OW1 I never got. Turns out I was played when the base cosmetics for the 3 new characters were basic af and the Epic stuff looked better than the legendary. Due to this I still had legacy currency left so thought I’ll just get the stuff i was able to on OW1 then before the end. PLAYED AGAIN, can’t even use legacy currency for content up to 6 years old that you could just 2 days before the game released. Absolute joke. Legacy currency literally has no use in OW2, you would be waiting for the basic stuff for new characters each time as it’s the only things you can redeem it on. Some people will never actually find it possible to spend all of their legacy currency because of this.
You should be able to, as long as the items aren’t:
Event related and not active.
Earned via challenge events.
Bought with real money, with special events, or from Blizzcon or the League shop.
Two days before the game was released (when OW1 was still running) they were also running the anniversary event. Which unlocks all items from all events, except for those that you could only get by doing the challenge events or special items as I named above. Or the League items.
I was able to buy things that had dropped new in the game already, but I only got ones for Kiriko. I need to log into my alt account and see if I can buy any legacy Halloween items or anything else now though to confirm. Be right back.
Well, I stand corrected.
ANY event related items are apparently ONLY going to get sold in the shop. Any legacy items that you didn’t buy you can still buy, as long as they aren’t event related at all.
Well that’s a fine howdoyoudo…
Ugh.
