I wanna play NA ranked but I always get queued into Singapore server.
is there some way I can get NA games?
and how can I avoid the servers that I don’t wanna queue in.
any help will be appreciated
The only effective way is specify your datacenter is by using a VPN to reroute your actual connection to the game servers. I recommend the use of ExpressVPN as my personal VPN provider. Please note, Blizzard Technical Support cannot provide in-depth connection troubleshooting if you use a VPN.
Please note, that the game client takes time to ping all of the different datacenter locations when you first log onto the game, so if you are being connected to the Singapore server, then that is the closest datacenter to you or there is a connection problem to the datacenter that you think you should be connecting to.
Blizzard launcher has a setting that lets you choose between Asia, EU, and Americas servers. It’s the little earth symbol to the right of the Overwatch version/ptr dropdown in the Overwatch tab.
Does that not work? I play on asia servers all the time.
Those are the general regions, and each has about three to five different datacenters each. For example the Americas region includes Los Angeles, Chicago, Singapore, Sydney, and Rio De Janeiro for their datacenters.
Wait, why is Singapore considered an America’s region?
visible confusion
The Americas region includes the non-Korean, non-China, APAC region. They would not have enough players in that area to have their own dedicated global region.
That’s still part of the Asian continent according to google. Wouldn’t it be better placed REGIONALLY in the Asia set?
I’m about 400 miles north of LA so I always end up in LA.
I was wondering why my ping was so high in the mornings.
Its not exactly a matter of geography, but more about working around local laws. The Asia Korean region has to accommodate to many of Korea’s laws including how their local PC Bang regulations are managed. The China region is not even part of BattleNet. (NetEase is the official provider for all of Blizzard’s games in China.)
It literally says select your region though… With an option being Asia. That seems a little deceptive to me.
I know, but that is the way it is.
When I select asia, I almost always end up playing the Japanese or Korean.
Correct Japan is included in the Asia region. I believe there are three datacenters for that region (2 in South Korea, 1 in Japan).
Oh my god no wonder some of my games feel like I connected to the venus servers.
I really need to study geography more.
If you feel like you are connecting to a datacenter that is not your own, check to see which datacenter you are connected to by checking the NetGraph while you are in a game of Overwatch. Do this by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N and check the Airport Code listed next to the IP address.
Watch Carmen Sandiego on Netflix… that will help you get back up to speed.
That’s a thing? Is it the cartoon from the 90s? Odang they just put Batman the Killing Joke on there. No geography yet.
Oh no, its the brand new series that came out two years ago, they just released their third season and its freaking amazing… click here for trailer
Not my thing, but I guess it’s better than kids watching Teen Titans Go.
