How are you liking Hero bans? Yay or Nay?

With the new ban system now in place I’m curious to know how other players think and feel about the new change. Personally I love it and have been enjoying the game now more than I ever did.

For context I’ve been playing Overwatch since the day it came out back in 2016 (on and off now for the past year) and damage being my main role playing in Master/GM ranks. I can play nearly every Hero fairly well so when my preferred Heroes get banned (Widowmaker / Doomfist) I still have a lot of options. I know many other players have a small number of Heroes that they play which lead me to wonder how others may feel.

Do you think this is a good change? Why or why not?
Do you play multiple Heroes or stick to just 1-3?
What are your overall thoughts?

YAY

I got nothing else I just wanted to say yay

Big yay.

Match quality significantly up, and player interactions in my matches way up too.

Big win so far.

Slightly leaning towards Nay under the current system. If they made a change where preferred heroes were immune I think the ban system would be greatly improved.

About 2-3 per role that I actually enjoy playing.

It is unfortunate for one tricks. I think Blizz should probably acknowledge them. As a Ball main I don’t mind not playing him sometimes. But he is banned way too often for my liking. Especially on maps where playing Ball is super fun. Although being able to ban certain heroes like Doomfist and Sombra is also nice. It’s better than hero pools but not by much in my opinion.

I consider this change to be one of THE worst changes ever made in OW

I pray daily that it doesnt infect any other modes of this game

You can spam that thread another 50 times, the points in it don’t become any more true or valid.

I hate it and love it at the same time  when ur teammates dont want to be part of banning heroes then nah

He seems to think it’s on a par with OG Brig. Or mass rez. Or that short period where Genji was busted.

Imagine thinking giving players more agency is “one of the worst changes”. Almost like they don’t like free will.

i think it’s a good system, so yay.
i’m happy that power is given to the community to keep things in check when balancing is not satisfying. I am happy about not seeing sojourn every single match now

i would like it more if each player had a bann (like expanding it to Atleast 6 banns, 3 per team.)

Like 4/6 want to play poke, the last 2 can’t do anything but bend over for poke.

i dont mind cheesing rank on widow with no counters.

He thinks it’s the second worst decision actually, and that RQ was the worst.
I’m sure he put up quite a lil protest then like he is now, didn’t work clearly.

Don’t know how Brig (the cause of RQ which in turn lead to 5v5 and now to hero bans) or P2W Mauga are lesser sins, or by far what is the worst sin of all, deleting OW1 and forcing us onto OW2.

For me the worst decision they ever made was Kaplan refusing extra people to split the pve development. Which ultimately lead to its failure

YAY.

But they need to fix the heroes that get the most bans because It’s not really fair to those players (I’m not one of them). And if that still doesn’t fix the issue, they need to implement some type of rules so that the same heroes don’t always get the bans. For example, that you can’t ban the same hero in more than two games in a row. Just to mix it up a bit.

From what I have been seeing most people think it’s a yay or big yay aside from a small handful of very vocal people. Even going as far as to encourage the harassment of the dev team on social media about how much they don’t like a game feature. Kinda cringe

I stopped playing competitive because this ruined it for me, the concept of it is great the actual gameplay of it is not. ive not been vocal about it nor have i said anything in regards to devs or social media team just figured i should write on the forums

People only care about banning sombra because its “cool” to hate on her, she is not the most annoying character, and no one cares about banning others who are actual problematic gameplay characters.

Ive found my games to consist of people who cant play other characters,
Gameplay interaction has been the same as prior

Huge yay, best part of a match

Its great! I havent played a ton of it yet but from what I’m reading its basically exposing people who are bad at Overwatch but are hero specialists. Meaning as a whole, they are bad OW players since they can only play 1 hero in a game where swapping is the name of the game.

We’re seeing people for example who are amazing Mercy players but awful at Overwatch. Or awesome Sombra players but awful at Overwatch.

I agree, Bans made the game a lot better, the only thing I don’t really like is the fact you can’t see the enemy team. It’s like the devs endorse OTP’ing.

I’ve stopped playing competitive and am actually playing D4 at the moment. Been playing competitive every season since season 1 of OW1. Big thumbs down.
