Lately I’ve been really struggling. A single Tracer is incredibly difficult to deal with, but add a dive tank and another dive hero or two and it feels hopeless.
Heroes that are traditionally strong into dive such as Brigitte or certain brawl heroes seem to have lost a lot of their efficacy dealing with dive this patch.
Anyways I’m not here just to mope. I’m curious if others have been feeling the same, and if so how have you been dealing with the upsurge of dive?
Playing picks like Torb/Brig usually meant you needed a team to go similar picks as well. They are still effective at dealing with dive units, but you need synergy. In many cases its simply go high sustain or high evasion.
If I see another Pharah, I don’t really bother going hitscan anymore and instead simply mirror the comp because Pharah vs Pharah is such a god awful match-up for each other in terms of fighting in the air its usually the case both ignore each other.
For supports is picking something like Moira or Kiriko who have iframe escapes.
The gap has closed between Brig + Tracer. Tracer has more HP meaning its no longer possible to burst her down if you happen to read a blink right.
Tracer does still whittle down Brig from a distance due to the passive now as well. It’s a longer fight, but the gap imo has narrowed. Not to mention in season 8 she got buffed for +40 more DPS.
Oh, and by the way if Tracer scampers off healing because you bonked her for 70 dmg, she’ll be back with more HP quickly enough.
How you feel about it doesn’t really matter too much. The last 2 months has seen quite the number of buffs to Tracer in the match-up. So much so she got the -2m range reduction for performance.
Dive tanks are so obnoxious especially Winston with 75dps and Doom just stunlocking you
If on dps i will not hesitate to hard counter them because f them they deserve it but on support not much you can do except go brig and hope you don’t get blown up by other heroes
What made the original Brig combo so good was it removed any possibility of counterplay due to the stun. After the stun period, you could still kill her, but it was limited to the window of bash → primary → whipshot which can be exited at any time by any ability usage by Tracer. Blink (3sec resource) or recall. As well as can be outranged.
That combo is now +1 more for a burst kill. Giving even more time for Tracer to ever disengage on the order of hundreds of milliseconds to react. When you have a melee character tied to 4-5sec cooldowns of limited range for doing damage or a primary fire at a 0.65 rate of fire, every swing matters to ensure a kill, and any mistake is punishable.
Especially for a character who has the power when to disengage or not. You cant’ force yourself to chase after a Tracer to kill her. If she wants to escape you can’t do anything to stop it. She has all the mobility and can set the terms of engagement and when not you.
Now that you are at the cherry picking stage the original statement still stands. The gap between brig and tracer has closed quite a bit. She’s objectively gotten multiple buffs to put the match-up better in her favor than before.
Constantly peppering a brig prevents sustainment buffs. Whittles down shield and debuffs Brig herself. Keeps shield away from someone else opening Brig up for retalation. She’s the bigger and slower target. Much easier to focus fire than a Tracer.
The ability for Tracer to play outside of Brig’s melee range lets her whittle her down. The DPS is high enough now at 240 (120 reload) and with DPS passive to whittle down the sustainment Brig has. If you miss even one whipshot, then Tracer can start regenerating life without using recall.
You used to ‘win’ against Tracer through attrition. The self heal forced Tracer to have to close distance on Brig without Brig having to chase after tracer. A single whip shot meant perm dmg taken to Tracer. Now, Tracer with the self heal, peppering, and DPS passive can out attrition a Brigitte on top of having advantage of when to choose engagements and freedom to leave whenever.
Im sorry if i can keep a tracer out of my back line for 5 seconds just from whip shot thats an amazing trade imo whip shots is on a 4 second cool down so i can keep her out of my back line permanently thats amazing i dont see how you cant see this
I’m being reasonable about the expectations of having 100% perfect accuracy or not on top of the core idea that Brigitte can only provide an umbrella of protection around herself. Along with the reality of how this character can perform up and down the ladder.
You have no control over Tracer going over to other players or other players staying around yourself. Nor even reasonably having all resources available for just Tracer alone.
This is generally why Tracer is such a powerful character and Brigitte is regulated to a niche pick. Tracer can choose her engagements. Nothing about Brigitte forces herself to interrupt a Tracer.
Ball is a much different beast compared to Tracer because the consistency is much higher and the threat level is much lower. Its very easy to hit a target much larger than Tracer who has less total burst than a tracer on top of a having a single mobility tool on a 5+ sec cooldown which is easily telegraphed with large wind up.
I had not looked at support for awhile. That’s funny its like <15 Brig’s for all of top 500 most played while Tracer is being spammed out the wazoo all throughout top 500 lol
I just pick Reaper and try to shoot shotgun shells at them. Sometimes they do a bit of damage and that’s always nice. Other times they just use their mobility or I-frames, or both to avoid me. That’s always fun…
Overwatch is a very balanced and fulfilling experience.
I’m not bronze and I’m not talking about 1v1. I’m talking about Winston plus Tracer jumping in at the same time at the very least. It’s not unusual for a Sombra to have been there all along, too.
