So basically he plays her like roadhog who is often characterized as a “fat dps”, conversely i often see zarya played like a “skinny tank”. a10 shows how to use her dps modelled kit like an actual dps, i have to emphasize that.
he takes space by contesting flanks on high charge and personal bubble off cooldown.
His biggest skill is target priority, if you are the win condition he will beam you down.
if you have an infinity stone he will beam you down.
if you have the last plate of cake he will beam you down.
His use of projected bubble are almost frivolous, but i would call them non methodical.
if 1 of his teammates need it he will give it with no thought of saving it.
His personal bubble is a lot more methodical though, as he needs it to escape punishments on his flanks.
If the win condition for a fight doesnt require his grav than he wont bother saving it, think about a split comp for example like ball poke or dive.
a zarya grav is going to have little value against that as you arent going to get a whole lot of people stuck in it.
however there is 1 thing he saves it for, spawncamping a squishie to solo grav(even i have to say thats a little crazy).
As someone who hates playing zarya and is not very confident on her, a10’s style bypasses everything i hate about her.
that being solo focusing shields and beaming tanks down, tanks have too much hp for zaryas dps modeled kit to beam down.
Again i have to say the word dps because her kit is that of a dps.
In other words, because she is a viable threat, she is a DPS. Gotcha.
Tanks are not supposed to be pushovers.
Any character can take space because taking space is pressuring (or better yet eliminating) an opponent out of position. Tanks in OW 1 are designed to do this. But DPS and even Supports make space, albeit less effectively.
You are basically confusing “DPS” with the act of taking space which Tanks do.
most ppl on the forums are gold/plat and wont be able to relate to this at all, maybe even understand what it rly means or find it useful, but kudos for highlighting the masterclass that is a10 without getting flagged for advertisement . He deserves it, and the forums could do with actually getting a proper lesson in what zarya does
the most fun thing about his playstyle is split pushing, especially on defence. walking into the enemy backline & beaming down both main supports
he has a very good understanding of timing, map control, and how much he can get away with. try to play like him without it and you’ll be a feeder but once you understand it it’s a lot of fun
Why is OW the only “sport” where people think that if you cannot hit at least Masters, you are an idiot who doesn’t understand how things work?
OTOH, I do agree that people need to understand that to make and hold space in a game, damage output is necessary; don’t whine to me when Zarya torches Genji as if it’s an affront. That is the entire point of being a tank.
