In a week OWL will showcase how busted the most OP role in the game still is. Some matches will be lopsided where one team never dies and the other is just constantly exploding, while other matches will be eternal battles of sustain where no-one can pick anyone.
Conversation surrounding sustain is more than likely going to take place following the first few weeks of OWL, and I fully expect NERFS to be handed out to the support role, not BUFFS as so many on the forum cry for.
We should see Dive Comps in full force with Ball and D.Va at the center, but I firmly believe OWL players have sorted how to position and rotate maps correctly as to not giga-feed on support.
I’m just going to be the first to attach my name to this ideology that there’s still too much sustain, and when positioning is proper sorted for the most positionally centric role in the game, supports will showcase why they’re still the most impactful role in the game.

Nerf dps first then. Then we can talk

Yeah that’ll fix the queue times.

That’s antithetical to what the devs want.
They want near instant TTK for OWL. It keeps it exciting and unpredictable. It pulls viewers. “Nobody” wants to watch eternal poke battles backed by broken sustain. GOATS and Double Shield tanked OWL’s ratings.
Supports are the new tanks and will get gutted for OWL.
GGs they were fun while they lasted.
Today’s blog post says that they mostly feel Supports are in a good place balance-wise. They’re planning reworks to make the role more fun in 5v5, not nerfs.

All supports should be given an ability called “I Submit!”.
Where they just lay there on their backs all limp and just whimper.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the Devs came out today and said they are giving them new abilities/buffing or changing some current ones soon because they are aware of how they feel right now!! <3

Well, not necessarily. It might come with nerfs to compensate. The only way to find out is to wait and see.
Exactly. I expect nerfs for the base healing of most if not all of the supports, along with a handful of nerfs to supports utility.
Overall I expect far more nerfs than any type of buff.
And as I stated in the OP, OWL will highlight this, and the devs live and balance for OWL, so RIP.

I mean, no to title but honestly yes to OWL showcasing how strong supports can be, even though that’s been shown a lot already on OW1 through supports being aggressive and not healbots
I don’t want to burst yours but they clearly stated that supports are getting changes… that hardly means buffs for all of them but probably the ones in the struggle bus (mercy, zen, bap) while nerfs seem likely for those who are too much atm (Just Moira really)

Naw.
They’re gonna be oppressively strong.
I expect Brig+Ana to be out in full force and to make the game miserable for the opposition.
Matches will either be too slow, or too lopsided. It’s going to negatively impact OWL, and once again, the devs live for OWL.
So if OWL is negatively impacted by supports, guess what? Supports will get nerfed.
They were never appropriately balanced in OW1 and instead tanks took the brunt of the blame (and still were ineffectively balanced). Support will now be the scapegoat so now the devs can start ineffectually nerfing the role.
The OWL players were the very first to play the alpha. And at the end of the alpha, they buffed supports dramatically with the role passive changing from 10hps after 2 seconds to 15hps after 1 second.

If anything, OWL is going to show how busted characters like Widowmaker and Sombra can be.

Agreed Widow and Ball are going to run wild.
Does anyone know if Discord stacks with Hack?
If so, that’s the meta- Zen+Brig+Ball+Sombra+Tracer.
… can we stop making a game for like… 200 people we will NEVER play with?

Pretty sure the meta support in OWL is going to be lucio, moira, and maybe baptiste in specific comps like brawl (together with lucio). Baptiste already got nerfed to his range and given that other supports aren’t as likely to be meta in OWL, I’m not sure if any support is going to get nerfed anytime soon.
Maybe lucio might get some nerf if he ends up being too strong compared to other supports. Which kinda sucks because I’ve always wanted lucio to be strong, more viable and have more solo carry potential. So I hope that’s not the case.
At worst, most of the supports are only going to get reworks or minor buffs rather than a straight up nerfs I’d imagine. It would be a mistake to mega-buff the weak supports though which could break the flow of the game but I doubt they’re going to do that.
With how matchmaking is on the beta, you might be able to play with some of them. If that is your cup of tea.

If I ever match up with anyone who’s even stood on the OWL arena floor… the matchmaking is definitively broken to all hell.
