Hot take: The game is better with just koth, payload, hybrid

Not sure if this is a hot take but I think the game is fine with just three modes. Despite all the push changes I still dislike the mode. Clash and flashpoint are too big and annoying imo. I don’t understand why the devs wanted to create new game modes. Was this ever something players asked for? Sometimes less is more and keeping the original core game modes would make the game more enjoyable imo.

Another hot take they should keep 2CP except paris and HLC

Clash probably has the most potential which is funny since it’s the most directly lifted gamemode that’s been added, the source being TF2’s ‘5CP’ maps.

The problem is that 5CP works in TF2 because that game lends itself to extended fights over single control points that can last longer than an entire game of Clash. There is also no Capture Total, meaning if the enemy doesn’t capture your home control point, the game ends in a tie.

The mode doesn’t work in a “competitive” environment that requires quick, decisive plays/rounds because it just turns an already snowbally game in to even more of a snowball. (And also encourages uninspiring strategies like just letting the enemy recapture their home control point since it’s disproportionately more difficult to capture than the one prior.)

Clash feels horrible to play because it requires the most of amount of teamwork and strategy. Many folks still treat it as Koth…

Agree.

Push the robot it’s the worst mode ever for Support role.

Clash has always been horrible thanks to the fact that the first teamfight wins everything 90% of the time. This in turn incentivizes people to meta sheep since on top of the first fight deciding the outcome, most clash maps are heavily biased towards hitscan DPS.

I have to agree, nobody asked for new gamemodes,

and 2CP, arguably is just skill issue or lack of patience,

there’s a reason a chokepoint is called a chokepoint - it’s not called flowpoint - it’s not called walk right through point…

It’s a chokepoint, of course you’ll get stuck there in 90% of the games…

This shouldn’t be a hot take… I’ve always thought push isn’t great, and flashpoint and clash are just awful XD

I disagree. I think people just hate new things and anything associated with OW2 out of spite.

I’m pretty sure that it’s been brought up over the years. As someone who likes all three new modes way more than payload and hybrid, I’d like to weigh in against the general sentiment.

You have a good point. The issue is that there has to be “enough” of a game or people will get bored or leave, and a lot of people seem to think Payload, Hybrid and KOTH are “enough”. They complain about everything else, so perhaps we only needed the three.

As you do, I’d argue it was actually fine with Assault (2CP) in it too because the real complaints came from the comp players. I swear, I didn’t get an unusual amount of leavers in 2CP even on HLC and Paris. People would leave when they start losing, but people always do that.

The OW2 modes (and even some new maps) still feel like trash even with 6v6.

no? people literally liked almost every single new change before OW2?

heh

I actually do like push as a mode. It’s close enough to escort to feel okay.

Hate clash though. Feels like you’re constantly playing on overtime.

Absolutely not. :joy:

Not necessarily true but okay.

Nope.

The game is better with KOTH, Flashpoint, Clash (and 2CP).

Escort and Hybrid (except for the first point to take) don’t match faster-paced Overwatch anymore.

They should rework the payload so it doesn’t break matches pacing anymore.

The funny thing is that Escort is also an issue in Marvel Rivals

Edit : Push is somehwat okayish 'cause it goes faster when you already pushed the thingy once in the enemies direction.

Just like the payload is the worst thing ever for support as well… even worse with one tank only (5v5) 'cause they’re never there. If there’s one thing I hate most, it’s being forced to afk on the payload in attack… I get bored and sometimes lose the dynamic of the match… and I can’t even reposition smartly… 'cause I’m stuck on that annoying thing…

As a DPS its the funniest mode, literally no corridors and you can flank from every side/angle even from behind because the respawn its literally 2 kms away etc.

If you’re Sombra can spawn camp people all day.

As a support, it’s a nightmare.
Everyone’s behind a wall constantly and dying because i can’t heal through walls, no one’s helping with the flankers who are on me constantly.
And everyone just runs off to feed and never groups up because of the point capture stress.
I need to be on the point to capture it (because no one else is) and push forward with my team at the same time to keep them healed.
And then my team dies at the enemy spawn because i can’t heal them when i’m capping the point and i just need to run again and pray a flanker doesn’t stagger me.

And then there’s the dps passive to gank any healing i might manage to toss at my team.
And most supports are really slow to get back to the point from spawn…

Clash requires retreating and pressing the S button which players apparently have unbinded

true, every other mode is just like waiting for an actual ow map to play. something like “while you wait” but tied to your sr. the good thing is i dont feel bad losing a clash game or push game. its so garbage i dont even care, it means nothing to lose there.
