Hot take: Sombra might be stronger after this change

One of the best counters to sombra was other mobile heroes with spam dmg. Heroes like Dva, Tracer, Winston, etc. The main reason being that they can take her out of stealth and chase her down. People keeping saying Sombra is dead but are missing this part of the change:

Yes she can still take dmg but the big thing is she keeps the +60% movement speed buff. This means those instances where you can destealth a sombra just before she rounds a corner and then chase her down, are probably going to be less common. Not sure exactly how this will play out but this could be a huge buff for smart sombra players. I get the feeling people are going to hate this hero a whole lot more, especially now that she has more lethality too.

There is no situation in which 5s stealth that requires you to use your only engage/disengage tool while also having translocator at 7s makes her stronger. I will agree that people will hate the hero even more because the bad players that disliked her before still won’t punish her during her huge windows of vulnerability while she does more damage.

Low ranks will cry more while better sombras just avoid the flank playstyle to emp bot by farming the enemy tank unless the enemy comp is safe enough to take deeper off angles vs. She might find a place in some brawl mirror comp in pro play though. (Sombra Mei probably)

not really

her only escape tools now are also his enganging tools

Doesn’t she do 20% more damage to hacked targets? Rip anyone in the frontline

genji manages with much worse conditions, sombra players will be fine.

I made a thread explaining how these changes might make her more lethal.

Oh no, overwatch player’s violently overreacted to a nerf/change?

This has always happened before!

I think she will be stronger yet harder to master.

Which should be the ultimate goal.

I dunno about this, Kev. Currently if the Sombra gets rumbled, they either prematurely engage with Translocator (TL) in their back pocket for escaping, or burn TL immediately to reset. Now they have to burn TL to even enter stealth and it has a +2s cooldown. Good luck shaking off Tracer without vertical mobility. Once I ping a revealed Sombra, our Tracer is going to find her and tear her to pieces.

Sombra’s strongest matchups are with 225hp and Widow. She’s still gonna shred them because we can’t go one patch with her without buffing her damage.

I’m not sure we’re done seeing Sombra reworks tbh. She’s a cool character and all but she’s definitely a pain point for OW2. Definitely a case of them not knowing where they want her to land

This would just mean the Sombra would have to pre-amply translocate and position on high ground to apply hack while in stealth then de-cloak to apply actual pressure within that 2 second time window.

The only thing that would feel odd would be the 7 second translocator now.

Bear in mind I’m replying to the OP, who’s talking about the sitation where Sombra gets rumbled. If she gets rumbled, even up on high ground, her options are more limited. If she stays up on high ground then someone who does have vertical mobility can either wallop her or force her to run elsewhere, and if she does run elsewhere, there’s a good chance Sombra gets pushed off high ground and is instantly devoured by a starving Tracer. Assuming Sombra’s enemies aren’t already on high ground, anyway.

It just seems like it’ll be a worse situation than currently, speaking as someone who isn’t especially invested in the changes (although I’ll try 'em out and give them a fair shake).

Translocator is weird because it provides invulnerability once the animation actually starts. It’s not like tracer blink or genji dash where they are vulnerable for the entire animation, once translocator goes off she’s literally safe till she lands.

If she didn’t have a short moment of vulnerability, she would just have zero counterplay or risk. Either she would get full value out of her dives by landing her abilities and shots, or she would disengage immediately upon recognizing she’s not securing the kill. That’s kinda how she is now: a zero risk hero that often just deletes people from the backline.

She will be stronger in some aspects and weaker in others.

Permanent invisibility and instantaneous translocator were the only things that truely bothered me (as well as a lot of other people).

Now she actually has to plan her route and choose targets more carefully instead of being able to roam unpunished.

Good change imo, but now I’m more worried about how this’ll affect Widow, Ashe etc. They’ve been indirectly buffed.

Not an overreaction. She lost her identity, and the broken changes will get reverted in a near future patch. Wouldn’t doubt the 20% going to 10% soon enough. If she’s WAY too lethal the people that had trouble with hide and seek sombra will be livid. Sombra threads every day.

yep, thats what I am worried about.
Her problem was choosing her engagement while being very very lethal vs squishes.
They now made her even More lethal while still being very mobile while invisible.

The devs have a knack for making things worse while having the intention of making it better but fail miserably.

Except being invisible in the backline isn’t necessary if you are behind someone. Than can just translocate away after attempting an assassination, where if it fails or not she can than almost always get away scott free.
