Got my profile open for those who want to look at it, I was just looking over my stats trying to figure out how I went from climbing to plat over several seasons to being stuck in low/mid-gold for the past 2-3 seasons.
I do everything I can: watch the instruction videos and try to implement them, look up tips and tricks for characters, play a bit out of my comfort zone to try to be better at “higher elo” characters, watch professional players, etc. and I seem to be getting better little by little but I’m not progressing as fast as I would like or expect for the amount of work that I put in.
I used to DPS main but after the 2-2-2 update, I simply don’t have the time to be stuck in long queues considering I have limited opportunities to play games in general between graduate classes and work so now I’m trying to be a better support character so that I can get more game time in.
Are there any visible red flags on my profile that stick out that I should really be focusing on to help me out that are holding me back?
Thanks-
You should record your comp game so we can tell you what you are doing wrong.

going up and down is part of overwatch.
i wouldn’t recommend to put too much weight on stats. in ladder just mentally being really honest with yourself about your play will help you grow more than that. i imagine in low gold your stats are pretty average across the board, as are most player’s stats in that rank.
if your dps go sit in aim trainers and even try different dpi’s if you feel you need it. if you feel your aim is better than than your average counter part in games you might not actually be implementing all your knowledge very well.
if your a support its hard as hell to climb. i dropped to high gold recently in support to play with friends then started my grind back up, you have to be the best healer you can and dps. knowing when to do which is the hard part. but gaining on support is not fun if your just a good heal bot, you need to be a playmaker as well.

stats dont mean much. as support u really only have 3 options in this meta. baptist, moria or lucio. just ult good as moria/ lucio. do good immortality field as baptist. easy
moria pushes double shield. lucio counters sigma ult/saves team.
just basically save ur team from team fights ur gonna lose.
if you’d like to play support, my advice is to keep yourself alive as much as possible. if you die, your team has no one to heal them and thus they die. keep this mentality and avoid unnecessarily risky plays. use cover whenever you can. prioritise healing targets. if you notice someone playing well, pocket them and try to keep them alive as much as possible. enable your team and hopefully they’ll do their job. good luck!
We’re more than halfway into the season and you’ve only played, what, 4-5 hours of ranked? Given the fact that it takes about 1 hour to get placed in each role, you’ve actually played 2 hours past your placements.
In quick play, I haven’t seen you having any playtime on Baptiste or Sigma, meaning that you aren’t even curious about how those heroes work, when they initially released.
The reason you’re stuck is because you don’t care enough to play/climb.
Looks like you’re playing a handful of different heroes. Win rates on Moira and Pharah are the best so far this season, if you were just playing them you’d probably go back up to plat. My advice though is pick whatever hero you enjoy playing the most and one trick them until you get really good. You learn how to improve faster that way as you learn more about how to carry with your character and what to do in all manner of situations.
Playing Overwatch?
haha nah. Don’t worry about it. Find a way to have fun and the wins will come.
Meta means nothing in gold or plat. Its not like people play double shield etc every game. I would know having been gold-plat this season.
Plats are basically golds with less soft throwing (sticking to a hero being hard countered).
They also kinda work together at times and don’t solo ult 1v6 when their team is respawning (low plat does, higher plat does not).
The game is a hamster wheel designed to keep you spinning and give you the impression that you’re going anywhere so you don’t get bored and quit. If they actually wanted people playing in even matches where they should be, we’d see a lot more draws and close matches, and people would get bored because they’d actually have to improve to get anywhere instead of just grind.

the sr system is garbage, it is absolutely 100% rigged against you to keep you buying new accounts. think about it, how could they pay devs if they were not selling accounts??
as a support you don’t heal enough and focus dmg too much, overall you die too much. why that is is hard to say with stats.
I could get your account to diamond in a day, and master in a week (not dps tho I’d be stuck in diamond). System isn’t rigged.
