Hello! I want to become good at hitscans but i really don’t know where to start. I was a 3.4k mccree main back in 2017 but switched to suport.
Warming up in training area does nothing for me, i can flick every bot but whenever i get into a game i lose the tracking skill.
The absolute WORSE hero i can play is widow. I cannot hit a single shot to save my life.
Do you guys have any tips on how to improve? Anything from settings, games etc?
Cheers!
Literally just have your monitor, keyboard and mouse plugged in and you’re already 90% of the way to being good at hitscan.
Don’t need your brain either, all the hitscans have ways to avoid being punished for bad positioning.

If you can hit shots fine in trainers or the range but not players, it could be lots of things, not exhaustive but here’s some:
Bots don’t react, so engage timing is a crucial difference. Choosing to shoot at someone who’s aware of you vs not aware gives different movement, and it can be especially frustrating on a tracking based character like tracer or soldier. If you pay close attention to top 500 hitscans, you’ll notice they actually are more patient than the pacing of the game would have you expect. It’s not just about people being aware but also reading animations for easier predictions. Sometimes, waiting for the right shot is more important than hitting hard shots. The higher you climb the more important this is because people are on average giving you less openings. They position better, move better, react faster, etc
Another thing is that, shooting people from highground who aren’t aware of you makes your shots really really difficult sometimes. Its because their seemingly random and unpredictable movement is across two axis and not just one (top down exposes you to forward back and side to side, whereas horizontal is only one of those). The steeper the angle you’re looking down, the harder that shot is
Yet another thing that might hurt you is strafing too much. You see it a lot from hitscans who take off angles like soldier or cassidy but you also see it from snipers like widow or Ashe sometimes. It’s less common with them because they’re in a safer position and being on a risky angle feels inherently dangerous, but in reality, it’s only dangerous once you give yourself away. When taking your first few shots against unaware people, just plant yourself and aim. Its another subtle thing that really good players do, even top 500 Tracers will sometimes plant and just track, no strafing, when it makes sense to
Spacing also matters a lot. The parallax effect hurts once you account for both players moving around.
Also it could just be pressure. Like being able to fight a mechanically better ai in a fighting game, but not a real player. Death match can help in that situation but just playing a lot and getting out of your own head helps more. Everyone sucks until they don’t.

hitscan takes no skill. i pop off on mccree and im a plat rein player. its not hard. go into an aim arena and practice for an hour. play 2 comp games, take a break, eat something, 30 mins of aim arena and then 2 comp games. rinse and repeat.

My dude, that sounds like a lot of groundwork to enable you to pop off.

Aimlabs on Steam is great. Custom games like the one where the bots fly up and to the side is good, the game code is 6EEAG. Another custom game where you can select which hero to spawn and they strafe/use their abilities around you as well as other settings, game code is DSCZW.
Hitscan absolutely takes skill, and anyone who tells you otherwise is gaurunteed garbage at hitscan. It’s unfortunate that someone makes a post asking for genuine advice and it just gets filled with plats saying “lol its ez look im hardstuck plat but i can win sometimes” like… ???
Also… OP specified 3k+ hitscans share their advice for a reason…

Despite what a lot of people will tell, most hitscans other than widow are a lot about gamesense positioning, not that widow doesnt require those, but she boils down to exceptional raw aim skill.
Others like cree, soldier ashe all require a understanding of the kit and positioning and predicting enemy.
For ex: Dynamite, flashbang, pulse rifle usage are a lot more important with these heroes, than their primary.
Knowing your effective range, and being able to poke anything that wants to poke or dive you.
Now widow maker is a different beast to the above heroes, to be good at widow you need aim, aim in these sense were you know the hitbox of every hero in the game, and being able to click their head.
Unless you can get like 20% scoped crit with widow i wouldnt recommend playing her in comp.
you have to be incredibly braindead to write such a comment, if you genuinely believe hitscans “have ways to avoid being punished”, then so do all other heroes in the game.
I assume you refer to something like Flashbang, but then there are abilities like Chain Hook, Sleep Dart, Boop (4s cooldown!) that also have peeling/kill denying power or power to deny kills on people out of position.
I think if you are plat, you should keep your comments to yourself, OK?
In truth, hitscan is a fairly situational role and very overrated right now.

Despite all the hate and drama, mccree is probably the toughest hero in the game, not difficult but toughest to keep winning on. [difficult would be my boo tracer but she is pretty rewarding for the skill required once you reach that]
He is almost the reinhardt of dps, often his value is dependent on team comp and the resource he gets.

No he isn’t lmao. He’s literally a crutch when you can’t get value on harder heroes like Genji/Doomfist/Hanzo/Tracer.
Tracer mocks on anyone of these ez heroes.
apart from roof polishing style doom doesnt need much skill, also he doesnt get value cause he has hard counters doesnt make him skill full.
Genji is middle ground he isnt as skilled as tracer.
Hanzo is literally the highest reward hero for less risk.
Cree is way tougher than doom genji cause they are both feast or famine, depending on enemy comp if there is counters they suck, if not they feast.
Cree on the other hand is the same performance consistent. He require way more positioning engagement than those heroes.
Hanzo is better than cree, though he is closer to cree than doom or genji.
My order would be Tracer > cree > hanzo > Genji > doom
