Heals mean nothing either. You can get thousands of heals just from topping off your teammates after a fight but if you can’t heal them when they need it most then you’re not doing your job.
That is why I think this post is bs. Surely if you are doing tons of damage and you can’t finish them then someone else would finish them off.
high dmg=pressure=opportunity. While kills are definitely essential you can not expect one player to close out every kill on their own. Frankly if you can not capitalize on his dmg output and the pressure he applies to the enemy team, yes they will only get “free” ult charge, but at the same time its more than likely coz you could not land a single shot to push them over the edge and get killed.
Only thing really skewing the healing data is the massive self healing of heroes like moria, other than high healing means you are keeping your team longer in the fight on average. Giving your team more opportunity to win.
I’m a support main and even I am surprised by how much healing some Zens have actually been doing. Very respectable. Keep it up.
its funny how the opposite of this is, “oh you just tapped someone and got the elim”.
You’d think, but assists and co-eliminations (saw one earlier - got hit by a Genji and Sojourn at the same time, both had 1 kill and we only had 1 death on the team with no leavers) are on the scoreboard for a reason.
It’s entirely possible for a DPS to do a lot of damage anf it just be glossed over with healing. Like, the other night, i was on Reaper and hunting the enemy Widow (our Genji decided not to). I had 2 elims, but only a couple hundred damage as every time i took out the Widow the enemy team went for me.
The Genji, who swapped to Torb, started grumping about how I was doing nothing as Reaper because I only had 800 damage.
He had 2300 damage, 0 kills, 0 assists, 4 deaths.
I was 800, 2 kills, 0 assists, 2 deaths.
So I ignored the Widow to focus on the enemy team, couldn’t out damage a Torb but started racking up kills and damage while letting the Widow run loose.
Torb ended with 4k damage, 8 kills, 0 assists, 10 deaths.
I ended with 3k damage (couldn’t get a good Blossom) 7 kills, 2 assists, 5 deaths.
Overall I did more for our team than Torbjorn - because damage is a terrible metric in a game with healing. It’s only a good metric when you’re fighting a boss npc in an MMO.
I agree, but it causes problems too. The number of supports that I have had call me trash when I tank because they think that their healing numbers tell the full story is mind boggling. A support with high healing numbers and a DPS with high eliminations / damage both mean nothing if you’re trickling and never working as a team to win team fights and objectives. I constantly die as Zarya when I have full charge and could team wipe because the enemy tank is being double pocketed and their DPS are focusing fire. Meanwhile my support and DPS are running all over the map or suiciding one by one. Similarly when supports heal bot and don’t damage boost / speed boost or choose a pair of supports with good synergy they aren’t providing as much utility as they might think.
Damage is valuable, but like most statistics, they are worthless without context.
Sure, but I was referring to a very specific problem that happens to us Zen players.
In OW1 if you played Zen, you were in for a whole heap of abuse. Any time anyone would die, usually due to their own positioning or bad judgement, this old chestnut would come out:
“Report our Zen, they aren’t healing at all, they only dps”
The number of times this has been said to me when I’m outhealing our Ana, Moira, or Bap is astounding. You can try to say “I’m not the problem, I have gold healing” or whatever but they would never listen.
Now the scoreboard shows that I have high healing numbers, high damage numbers, and have only died twice. So I barely ever get yelled at anymore.
I watched the heal numbers in my recent games. The winning team usually had LESS heals actually.
This is something Widow players actually have problems with a lot.
You’re not supposed to really attack tanks. You go after the squishies. And if they’re weakened, that’s less than 200hp a pop to add to your tally.
Even if you headshot 10 squishies with full health that’s only 2K damage.
And yet damage is how my teammates gauge value. Not that I was wiping out the healers.
Damage priority and efficiency over amount all the way. Same goes for healing.
What rank are you? I always get yelled at for playing zen. Always get dived, never get helped by my team. I out healed my ana, by double and I got yelled at. I don’t like to play kiriko, lucio, mercy or brig. I can’t play my favorite character due to morons.
I got placed Bronze 4 when OW2 came out, and I turned off all comms and one-tricked Zen to Plat 5 or 4.
Then found Kiriko had that similar pop-off potential with the added bonus of high mobility and escape.
Am now Diamond 5 primarily playing Zen, but occasionally having to Kiriko if the enemy team consistently does a coordinated dive, or if Suzu and Rush would be better abilities to help my team.
Comms are all still off btw. Sick of listening to constant moaning when I’m trying to play a videogame.
It means nothing if your dps focus enemy tank who has Ana’s rifle rammed up their butt. Any other scenario, damage = pressure.
Exactly the same goes for healing numbers. It doesn’t matter if you have 10k healing if you just kept your beam on Rein’s behind while all your squishies died like flies around you.
Agree, better to get kills in my opinion. Can get high damage numbers by attacking a tank constantly being healed - but you’re not adding value without getting eliminations or assists.
Conversely, if you’re doing a ton of non-lethal damage, the enemy supports will always have a ton of healing.
Sometimes, when you see enemy healers with way higher stats, it’s not because they are better healers, it’s because the DPS/tank are pumping them up with useless damage.
Nothing more frustrating than DPS complaining about the “support diff” when it’s literally their fault. Even worse when they are always dying to one-shots that you can’t heal through anyway.
