There seems to be this idea that dps players aren’t queing because they don’t have enough killing ability. That is far from the case, in fact its to opposite.
DPS aren’t enjoying the role right now because they die too easily. Too squishy in a game where either everything dies instantly or never dies at all. The more sustain heavy roles (tank and support) are going to live longer, and thus be more fun to play.
The solution to this, counter intuitively, is to nerf burst damage to let dps players have more breathing room. And then, we can finally nerf burst heals for a slightly slower, more deliberate game.
Also it just occurred to me how utterly bizarre it is that you can have the same person complain about “Power Creep” and complain about “Homogenization”.
Since those are basically direct opposites.
Although I’d phrase it as “Narrow Counterplay” vs “Broad Counterplay”.
What? Your definitions are bunk. You can have wildly different kits that are all within the same level of power. Ball is an insanely fresh concept, for example, not at all homogenized. But he absolutely is not power creep.
A hero like Illari or Sojourn, however, don’t bring much new to the table. THAT is homogenization.
how about we dont “slightly nerf” heals and nerf heals just as hard as burst damage if not harder? in fact, most dps dont need hard nerfs if anything. some dont even need nerfs at all. the only ones that do are sojourn and tracer that need the hard nerfs. i’d argue on what makes dps miserable is the fact that support heroes can also deal decent damage while having strong utility, healing, and sustain on top of it that negates a lot of what dps are meant to do, and with far less effort. and some can actively 1v1 a dps with ease.
and before any one jumps the gun because i know the forums are notorious for doing that, i’m not referring to supports like mercy or lucio obviously. this applies to the problematic heroes like kiriko, bap, illari, brig, etc. dont play stupid with me
You’re probably right, largely because Power Creep and Homogenization are mostly highly situational terms, with specific meanings and specific contexts where they are relevant.
But they are so overused outside of their meaning and context, that it’s kinda incoherent to use them in any context.
Dps is boring, that it’s real vice. People are realizing that playing support and multitasking healing, damage, and utility is far more interesting than playing sojourn and just nonstop charging rail gun. And now support doesn’t have that little negative of sucking cheeks to play. Personally I’ve never felt ineffective or squishy on dps. Just. Bored. Which coincidentally is also why Genji remains popular even when nerfed into oblivion.
