I think you get easily provoked. As I said, if anyone on a post or real life told me to drop my passions for stupid reasons like yours (or at least how you worded in op) I’ve give a middle finger and move on with my day.
As such, the way you describe what you just said vs your op are two completely different things.
I would have never replied if you directed your venom towards the “complaining forum people that want xx skins”.
Yours addresses everyone to not make fan made skins though and for the reasons of “Because I want blizzard to make those skins”
Except, the title literally says “if you want skins”, then the implication is followed through in the OP that this is in regard to fan-made skins. I give a reason as to why these skins are less likely and give a suggestion to increase the likelihood of them bringing these skins forward.

So I get where your coming from- it’s backwards though as someone else said. You want the art but in order to do so to suggest to others not to make it.
I’m not an expert on copyright do I’m not touching that with a 10 foot broom but what I was trying to propose in the 2nd post that you glazed over was it’s a wrong direction you are taking.
Other games have fan based competitions for skins. Why doesn’t blizzard? I thought I read somewhere on their ama on reddit that answer but, contrary to what you think, I don’t care that much.
I just care enough to say to tell others to stop making fan made skins is pretty dumb in my book when the reality is blizzard should be more open minded to its fans suggestions but the are a bunch of pricks like that.
Again, I’m not really up for debating on these forums anymore. Too many run-ins with very stubborn users that refuse to even compromise on just agreeing to disagree.
You are more likely unaware, but I usually make throwaway threads like this that I don’t put much thought into but thought I would share.
As for why Blizzard doesn’t hold these competitions? I explained to another user (to the best of my capabilities because I don’t actually know as I’m not an employee or anything) but I just think the relationship between the team and the community is too weak. Usually with other communities, there is quite a good relationship that bounces off the playerbase and the dev team but this just isn’t the case with OW. Which is probably why they try to keep the community as less involved as possible
Except, the artist most times isn’t making a profit from these. They are free designs but they belong to them.
Blizz could very easily claim that because the original work is based on their own character that the artist has no legal rights over it. The artist might have a leg to stand on if it’s an entirely original character with a fully fleshed out design but “I put Mercy in a red one piece, so this is my design” won’t hold up.
The main reason Blizz doesn’t do many fan made designs and ideas is because Blizz tends to avoid fanservice-y type stuff being the actual game and they tend to avoid meme-y/pop culture stuff because it usually ages poorly. Filter out all of those and you have like 2% of fan designs left.
I don’t blame you for this thread. Hell the threads I spent days on/ like balances ideas or heroes concepts never saw light but a stupid thread asking about what a simp/4head/ or other words can get over 100…
Regardless I understand where your coming from just not the right move. I’d rather move on blizzard being stubborn. Now if imma dig through that AMA I’m sure they addressed that question.

There’s a few good people here, but it’s hard to find good debate or conversations on this forum let alone by on the internet with how most react now and days.

However, they sort of glazed over the question and said it’s not something they are looking into right now but at least these hope for the future maybe.
Unless the design borrow more than 80% element of the original work, then it’s won’t be hit with copyright. Otherwise it will just be creative inspiration. Copyright law is not that strict, or else we will choke all artistic liberty.
