I see a lot of people struggle vs Sombra so I made this list as Sombra main to help you guys.
Support: Kiri, Moira, Bap, Brig, Lifeweaver
Kiri: Sombra will have a hard time killing you because of tp and suzu. You can provide decent healing for your team and suzu as a last ditch effort.
Moira: Again a very hard target for Sombra. The self heal and fade is very hard for Sombra to deal with. Decent at protecting teammates with her heal juice and orb makes it even better.
Brig: Decent at protecting yourself from Sombra but not as good as the two above. Brig is great at protecting anyone Sombra tries to kill. The AoE heals is good but combined with repair back can give a quick burst to save someone from virus. You can boop Sombra away which disrupts her dive as well as provide the AoE heal.
Bap: The best and more underrated counter to Sombra. You are impossible to kill with not only a vertical escape and instant burst heal but also lamp. You have scary dmg to actually 1v1 her. Not only that but you can protect anyone as well with a burst heal and immortality. I honestly don’t know why more people don’t play Bap to counter Sombra.
Lifeweaver: An underrated counter probably because he’s a niche pick. But lifeweaver is great for a couple reasons. The most obvious being life grip can save anyone from a sombra dive. His heal is easy to land so decent at saving someone. More importantly lifeweaver is very hard for Sombra to dive. His dash is not only a good escape but the self heal is great for surviving virus. His petal is also good for escaping too. However lifeweaver has great dmg. In a 1v1 he can shred sombra is you land your shots. Lifeweaver has other weaknesses so I’d rather other options but he’s pretty good at denying sombra value.
Tanks: Dva, Winston, Zarya, Orisa
Dva: I think Dva is the biggest tank counter. She has so much armor which makes her tanky enough to render Sombra primary essentially useless. DM can not only save others but also she can eat virus. Dva primary is great for getting sombra out of stealth as you can basically spam it forever and it only takes one shot to destealth her. Most importantly Dva has the mobility to chase Sombra after tp and kill her.
Winston: Very similar to Dva in that he’s tanky enough to withstand her primary and more importantly bubble makes getting hacks + virus off more difficult. Like Dva he has great mobility to chase Sombra down.
Zarya: What she lacks in mobility makes up for in ability to peel for teammates. Bubble can cleanse hack + virus. You can obviously bubble yourself which makes you a harder target.
Orisa: She has a ton of armor which makes it easy to live through her primary. She can eat virus with her spin and fortify makes her unkillable. Spear is a pretty decent way to protect against her dive similar to Brig whipshot. Overall Orisa is a decent answer to Sombra.
DPS: Mei, Reaper, S76, Sojourn, Sym, Torb, Tracer, Sombra (lol)
Mei: Mei is a good pick because of how tanky and survivable she is. Cryo freeze is a free save from any burst sombra does. Also the extra hp helps too. Mei primary is easy to land so warding off a sombra is easy and her icicle can do good burst dmg.
Reaper: Edgy boy is good vs Sombra too because of how survivable he is against a dive. The self heal is great and he gets a free escape with wraith form. What people don’t realize is Reaper can save teammates too because of his shotgun spread. Any dmg will cancel hack so if sombra is hacking a teammate simply look in their direction and shoot to cancel it. Overall great counter pick and very underrated too.
S76: He has the spam to deal with invis better than most dps. In a 1v1 S76 should win most of the time due to his superior dps and burst from helix. He also has a self heal to survive virus. Like others he has the mobility to chase down a sombra who runs away.
Sojourn: Similar to S76 she has a decent primary to cancel stealth. In a 1v1 she can beat sombra because of the burst from her rail. While she has no self heal Sojourn has a pretty small hitbox which makes it hard for sombra to follow up any virus dmg. Like S76 she has the mobility to chase down sombra.
Sym: A very underrated counter but you have to play smart. Well placed turrets can really ruin a Sombra’s day. In a straight 1v1 Sym loses to everyone lol but you should be playing with your team anyway. She’s not as great a counter as she used to be because Sym is hot garbage rn but if she ever got a buff she’d be even better.
Torb: Arguably the best counter imo and what Sym should also be. If you really want to make a Sombra rage then you can place turrets in good spots and baby sit it. Most sombra players will try to ego duel you and lose most of the time. Which is great because you’re diverting attention away from targets she should go for besides you. Turret is great for ruining hack. He is tanky enough to survive any sombra dive. Overload gives him a 30% speed boost so he is surprisingly good at chasing down a sombra. He has a shotgun like reaper which is great for saving teammates from hack. Overall he does pretty much everything that removes Sombra value. S+ counter pick imo.
Tracer: Tracer is pretty much a better version of Sombra. Better mobility, better dmg, better escape. Tracer primary can be decent at canceling hack and also spy checking. More importantly she is the best hero at chasing her down.
Sombra: idk this shouldn’t counter but sombra does counter sombra lol. More specifically if you play anti-dive sombra. Basically you can stay in your backline and hack sombra as she engages. This is pretty boring imo but can be effective. It really only works though if your team isn’t running dive and you have vulnerable supports. If you have other dives dps/tank it’s better to just go with them. But don’t sleep on anti-dive sombra.
Anyway those are what I run. There are some others I could’ve mentioned but I view them to be more even matchups. What do you think? Do you like my list and do you think I left anyone out?
