Hero swapping works

Today I swapped to Mercy fr Brig after seeing my team had both Pharah/Echo. I recently read in the forums that this trio is awesome & we won.

Next, I swapped to Cassidy fr Reaper to counter the Pharah. We won again.

Both hero swapping- to form a meta and to counter worked. Share your hero swapping stories here…

Uh… Yeah, I totally have those. Definitely. Because I just swap so often. Ha ha… Ha. There are many great tales of me turning a game around by getting off of my one trick. Anyways, there was this time where this Mercy player got off their hero and we magically won because they did something other than complain about how I refused to swap. That was pretty sick!

Correct, the rock, paper scissors countering principle that the game was originally designed around does work.

Not just to counter, but also to synergize with the team, as said in OP.

Well, if we’re exchanging swapping stories - I did have a game the other day where I rolled out as Ram on Oasis. The enemy team completely stomped us in the first round and our DPS put the blame entirely on me. “Don’t play Ram into Rein,” they said, “Go Orisa instead.” Although they kinda phrased it more abruptly and with more expletives.

Now, usually this would bring out my stubborn streak. I’d double down on Ram because I don’t like people being rude to me. I also haven’t played Orisa for something like seven seasons, if not longer. But I thought, hey, just this once I’ll give it a go.

And you know what?

We still got our heads absolutely kicked in. Oh well.

In OW 1 some of my favorite things to do main tanking was when I’d switch in the middle of a fight to Orisa the master anchor tank and change a completely normal playing field into a choke point and just rat-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-

I’d black out from the blind fury and somehow we won.

I am, like, actually so triggered. I HATE Rammatra into Reinhardt so much more than Orisa because the match up depends on your DPS. And yet, with Rammatra, YOUR DPS are crying? Aw lawd have mercy, I need to find a pillow to scream into. My cat is laying right by me…

Forgive me, Meow Meow! I am sorry, old chap.

Yeah, I had to bite my tongue on that one. I knew we weren’t going to turn it around no matter what after hearing that.

Maybe your heart just wasn’t in it, lol :man_shrugging:

Ofc swapping to a hero you haven’t played was also a bad idea.

On the OP the heroes I used were ones I practiced on.

I was Doomfist.

Enemy was rein

I killed him

He went mauga.

I went orisa.

He went zarya.

I swapped again.

He swapped again.

We starting swapping in the spawn room.

Neither of us had any fun.

Everyone lost.

The end.

ofc what I asked for in the OP were success stories.

Just today I switched form Tracer to Cass to counter a Pharah (I’m not super comfortable with hitscan heroes and main dps entirely) so it came as a suprise to me how well my team was doing now that we had someone deliberately putting pressure on the Pharah. Even if I didn’t kill her because of my aim (which needs work), my team was still able to progress and occasionally mop her up due to my contribution.

This was also my experience with counter swapping as Cass against Pharah. Low kills but I was able to put pressure on both their dps.

Just now, I swapped to Brig when Mercy was failing me and it just clicked, we won.

So now I have 2 heroes I practice, so I can have a backup for swapping.

My sentiment exactly. Kehehehe

You won, but at what cost?

I think team synergy is more important than countering.

For the record Brigitte is also quite good with Pharah and Echo.
