I can see marvel rivals now offering 1 new hero each month …where we get only 3 heroes a year in overwatch .
That means if I main Tank I will get only 1 my main role in a whole year …dont you think thats way too slow?
I feel like overwatch should give new character every new season …that is 6 a year

Well designing a hero from the ground up instead of copy pasting them from a comic is a lot different. Quality > Quantity

Rivals already has the characters available, to be fair. It’s creaking Marvel.
They don’t have to do the lore, the designs, the names, the concepts. It’s all done for them. Models and gameplay is the unique aspect to that development cycle.

This, coupled with the fact that Rivals is far more focused on variety/fun… rather than balance/competition like OW.

but still instead of 3 we can get atleast 6…3 I feel is very low …if the heroes are not your type you have to wait 1 more year

It would be nice to get more than 3. Imo we shoulda gotten a lot more at the release of ow2

Marvel Rivals lacks competitive integrity. Its a casual game, so they’re able to release unrefined heroes without careful playtesting.

12 heroes a year is way too much tbh, but 3 is barely anything too. What if you dont like the hero we get for your role? I got lucky with Juno last year, but Weaver and Illari have been duds for me. The next water guy looks meh too.
Lmao at all the cope about blizz doing careful testing for their characters. More careful than the other guys, extra careful.

The sacrifice that has to be made I would love for them to expand the team to maybe push one out a season but acti/blizz greed wouldn’t allow it. Even rivals themselves seem to be struggling with creating heroes that are my type for support/tank the dps design is very good though.
Every new hero potentialy shakes up the way the game works. We need time to adjust to it before we get a new one. Having too many heroes released in a short spam of time risks the competitive integrity of the game.
I’d rather they take a look and balance the heroes we already have, even rework some abilities/kits, or even perks, while slowly adding new heroes to the game with more unique/fleshed out mechanics and designs.
If this happens, you still play the heroes you used to. Taste is deeply personal and we can’t account on releasing several heroes to see what sticks. Remember: at the same time they could release a hero that you absolutely love to play as, they could release a hero half of the playerbase hates playing against. This fine balance is very hard to make, and despite Blizzard failing at it often, having them do more in less time will certainly not make them fail less.

Personally I’d like 4. I am still fine with 3 tho. What I want more of is maps. Especially modes that have so few, like flashpoint and push.

If 3 a year wasn’t a problem in 2017…then it shouldn’t be an issue now
Is not like it would guarantee anything….MR is chucking them out at light speed and what’s it gotten them? 3x less players in 2 months (no I’m not making that up - the feb/mar numbers are abysmal)
Like others have said already:
Quality > quantity

Not quite 3x less. But they did lose almost 60% since January. I am curious how much the new season will increase it, and for how long.
I’d rather have fewer but higher quality heroes. I already feel like we’re failing in that regard, with both Hazard and Freya being strangely uninspired and forgettable.
4-6 is what they will need to start doing. 4-5 being more realistic though.
That would be fine if true but it’s not, mauga/hazard/freya are kinda lame, and venture, lifeweaver, illari all niche and worse than original cast, that doesn’t justify so much waiting they are mid at best

To be fair that can be true for ow to an extent. Like we have max, syms guy friend, mama hong, the entire mech squad. Some Overwatch has characters they could do if they chose too. It doesn’t necessarily need to be ground up only.
Hard agree
Also 4 is a good number I think. If there’s one thing that Blizzard is very good at…it’s releasing fully polished things in regard to art/style/world integration/UI/Hero interactions. Which I feel like 6 a year would be far too much to achieve these things.

Now with this again… MR is still relatively fresh and of course they’ve had more than a couple characters ready before release, that’s how it goes. Let’s see how many characters it offers after a year. Also, MR has established characters with decades of source material to pull from and they don’t have to start from scratch.
Yeah, I did get only Mauga… and I don’t play him, cause his desing is not very tank-like. Now I get Hazard, whom I also don’t play and you know what? I’m kinda good with my pool.
