Well, there will be an increase in smurfs. It is the same problem, but the issue will be more potent.

There’s already a zillion smurfs in game, especially on consoles where smurf accounts are free to make.
The change to hero bans will have little impact on smurf numbers in game.
who cares, if you want to rank up to next bracket you’re going to play against similarly ranked players anyway.
GM / Top500 players literally do not like smurfing, so anyone who is claiming that’s their rank is likely lying anyway.

You should check your number. Do you know how many are Master and GM together?
Even if ALL of them go for smurfing they probably would be BY FAR less than the current smurfers that annoys you so much which are mainly from diamond and platin.

I actually hope this happens and exacerbates the smurfing problem so they finally realize it is a major issue that needs to be dealt with. It’s not on the players - it’s on their system that allows for this to happen

Smurfing isn’t going anywhere until the game has a significant change in business model. New accounts bring in new money. So hopefully OW2 brings that and smurfs are less common.
Smurfing is common in every game. It’s not an exclusive Overwatch problem. The only way to mitigate the problem is to do what Valve did for CS and create a prime matchmaking with number authentication and waiting period. It didn’t solve it, but it certainly helped.
If used here it’d certainly help as well.

I mean… I do enjoy smurfing and messing with low rank players with non meta picks and make dumb plays…makes the game less stressful and tedious

Not trying to invalidate your statement but there’s a guy (a couple threads over) who is a T500 player who says he enjoys smurfing (his forum post has almost 400 comments on it, you can’t miss it).
I know 3 or 4 GM smurfs who don’t like hero bans and are smurfing since they want to play their heroes in the competitive environment 
Knowing that you are T500, perhaps you could offer some enforcement of… high level integrity?

Yeah he is obviously lying there is no way he never smurfed. Every GM I know is guilty of it some even trade low rank accounts.
Lol… Some d bag out there runs a company where they continue to make Overwatch accounts and throw/level accounts to whatever SR level the customer requests…
At this point, I’m just upset that I didn’t think of it myself…

I personally know 2 top500 players who have multiple accounts in bronze, and one GM who’s been throwing games and smurfing in bronze for more than 10 seasons…
Wow that’s one dedicated fella the ones I know only use other accounts and then stop using them if they are too high xD
There are scripts out there you can use while throwing. You can literally alt tab and do whatever you need to do and the script will keep shooting, using character skills to prevent you from being kicked for afk…
just because i have smurf accounts doesn’t mean i enjoy it, the game quality is lower.
