Gonna be honest, I doubt the hero is permanently paywalled - that being said I wouldn’t be surprised if you could pay to have “early access” to them in all non-competitive modes.
Obviously I still don’t like it, I just don’t think they are quite as stupid (because it really would be) as people think.
now the question is how much of a grind will it be to get the new hero. i have never played with a battle pass system (overwatch was the only game i ever loved really and other games i tried i never dropped a cent so i never got their battle pass)
i have heard of tiers or levels but i dont have a clue which game does it right or how much TIME it entails. will the new heroes be deep in the level system or will it be right away. i have heard two sides of the argument about that. if it was right away then why even put it on the battlepass to begin with so it will likely be deep in this tier system of the battlepass
yet again we have to wait and see since we get minimal information from blizzard. the miscommunication thing they are great at
i really doubt that theyre going to make their battlepass more fair and more rewarding then a fortnite battlepass or apex battlepass.
these people sat in a conference room and probably said, “yea fortnite is the greatest multiplayer game in modern history. If we just make a battlepass and put it out there, overwatch will become the new greatest game in modern history.”
What else is he supposed to do? These are all logical conclusions to come to when they have to backtrack the leak of their moronic concept of putting content behind the battle pass. You remember how they paywalled most of the second beta period?? They essentially paywalled the entire roster in that instance since you had to fork over the cash to play. This works essentially the same. You will see Flats/KarQ/OWL pros playing the new hero while you (not wanting to pay for scummy dev practices) are forced to wait potentially weeks of playtime to play the new hero. I don’t care if the content takes “only 2h to unlock”, that’s two hours of pain and misery playing against the character that could (read: WILL) be blatantly overpowered and ruin ranked for everyone who doesn’t fork over the cash and buy the instant win button like we see with JQ in the OWL.
Imagine you see the OWL running one composition of UP TO 6 different heroes (JQ, Sojourn/Ashe, Genji, Lucio, Brig) and you want to try running that composition in competitive because you’re high SR. Your team locks all the heroes necessary, but you as the tank player haven’t put in the “only 2 hours” or the quick payment of $9.99 required to make your composition succeed in the first place. Your team will flame you and you will lose 95% of those games in which the hero you and your team want to play has a padlock over their portrait. Terrible experience for everyone on the losing side.
you know youve messed up when youve made baja distinctly critical. Baja has always been an ardent defender of OW and now even they are pointing out the BS lol
i hate that term …i think the common complaints throughout the years are overblown…hell i dont really have any issues with what ive seen as far OW2’s feature and actual gameplay…
but i will call out BS if i see it…and this POS monetization is absolute BS…
Yeah, this was my main concern with OW2 implementing a bp system. My question of “what if they decide to lock heroes in the BP?” was always met with " they would never, thats a core part of the game!" Welp here we are. I get its on the free track, but where? I can guarantee it is at least at the half way mark. What if life happens? are you forever locked from that hero? or at least until they put it in the shop for purchase. I can see this being the route. After all, that is what f2p is about. Its about maximizing profit, not supporting the game.
We’ll have 34 heroes on release to choose from, so it’s not like Apex where they start you out with 6 heroes. Counter picking will not be an issue with that many heroes to pick from. Also, we don’t know how long it takes to unlock the hero. For all we know, you could unlock them on the first level.
Game developers do not have infinite resources and money, so they need to have a method of making money. If you can still play the game for free and unlock everything that directly affects gameplay for free then I don’t see the issue. OW2 is not OW1 and we have to accept that or just don’t play Overwatch anymore. Everyone is acting like you have to shovel coal for a month to unlock the hero in a video game
