Welcome, welcome… I know you’re likely confused as to what this even is.
Allow me to explain.
I see “Rework” ideas and opinions thrown around like candy nowadays… and everyone seems to have their own idea of how to make the game exactly as they want it, so they can have the best experience no matter if others disagree… it all seems opinionated to a whole new level, and I’m getting tired of it.
So… I was thinking…
Let’s come together with some ideas and concepts to revamp things in the game, without needless bias.
Or… as close to not having bias as we can, while it will ultimately still be my collective opinions presented to get the ball rolling, it will be an attempt to better the game all around for everyone involved if we can.
What exactly do I mean by “Revamp” I hear you asking? Presenting changes to make the heroes feel more like… themselves, and to make Overwatch feel more immersive as a cinematic experience, based around the in-world lore and style itself.
The main and ultimate goals here are two things…
-
Creating a fun atmosphere where we can discuss our favorite heroes and game elements that we ALL would agree on or wish to see in the game, whether that is a small change or a complete overhaul.
-
Actually improving the game’s overall feel, even if it’s just on paper… this isn’t meant to be taken as seriously, and thus there’s no reason to be angry or mean spirited if you dislike a direction that one of these threads goes… that is what discussion is for.
What this ISN’T meant to be about is getting into splitting hairs over number/value changes, or trying to find a balance between number/value changes on paper, as that often leads to an endless cycle of opinions and untested interactions. I am not against providing suggested numbers/values, but I will not focus on them above all.
This isn’t about “Buffs” or “Nerfs” for the sake of taking or giving ability or capability, no no no… this is about changes that just feel better in the hands of players.
Phew…
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s start this series-
Wait, what? Series?
I’ll be tackling every hero in the game.
You heard me.
Every.
Last.
Hero.
Oh and a few other things… but the general idea is to change everything… in some small way. Even if it’s single visual alterations, the goal is to improve the elements we already have, while perhaps coming up with a few new fun ones along the way.
How often am I going to be posting these? >~>
Probably. We’ll see. That is mostly based on how these threads are seen in the public eye.
Today in fact, we aren’t even talking about hero balance. Yup that’s right.
Today we’re tackling…
The Hero Gallery.
Now… what do I mean? What could I possibly improve about the screen where you choose hero items and get to view your hero and those sweet skins you’ve earned?
Firstly allow me to make my largest and likely most transformative change…
- The hero gallery is no longer a simple screen with drop down menus, instead it functions as a game-mode like the tutorial or training range.
Whoooo boy that’s a big one. Let’s talk about why, or what that would entail… shall we?
I see the player clicking the hero gallery and being presented with a list of available maps… choosing from them to then load the instance of the game, just as the game already seems to do for the main screen… instead of the training range or a static set of cameras, they would be met with a custom version of the map, depending on the maps available.
Map changes:
-
The player would spawn in a new area, likely the center of the largest area of the map. I’m going to be using Junkertown for reference as it has one of the largest open areas to work with, but other maps may require slight edits to make this feasible.
-
All heroes in the game would spawn pre-loaded on “Pads” like Tracer already does, in the training range.
-
Interacting with each hero would allow the player to change their owned cosmetics in real time.
-
On the interact screen the player would find an option to play as the selected hero, resetting the hero they already chose to play as in the map, and allowing them to step off of the pad with whatever cosmetics they have chosen, loaded in real time.
Why would I want to see this?
Personally I feel the hero gallery doesn’t give players much in the way of actually immersing themselves into their collecting, and on top of that it doesn’t allow us to reliably see our cosmetics all laid out in front of us.
With these changes one could even find themselves roleplaying a bit in-game, or even being able to show off cosmetics to friends in real time, in easier ways.
Let’s say I load up the hero gallery on Junkertown, and try to match my heroes to the aesthetic, before I ever actually load up the multiplayer game-modes themselves.
It allows for further personalization and better game-feel, without actually adding much of anything new.
I would love to hear your thoughts down below, and your own ideas as to how we could alter or improve these specific elements, that being the hero gallery. Or even if you think they should be left as is.
I know these suggestions may sound crazy to some of you, and I’m not even suggesting that they would work with the game’s current code or design, this is all meant as an exercise in creativity and development of new concepts and ideas.
TL;DR: Not that anyone needs to judge this thread off of this block of text alone, but I feel the need to state these few things over again to be absolutely CLEAR. This thread is an attempt at forming new and more healthy discussions about elements of the game, while being an exercise in creativity and expanding upon the game we already have in new and fun ways. This is NOT in any way meant to anger or upset anyone who may or may not want something specific or see these presented changes as going against their personal opinions or views. In light of ALL of the discussion surrounding OW2, I fully understand that these changes are not meant to be considered real or even pushed as real suggestions that the creators of this game are meant to see… rather, this is for us. The players, the readers of this forum, and the ones who still want to be active in this community. Anything further is simply conceptual and open to interpretation.

So I’m back at it again, with a new thread concept which I intend to stick with, as long as the people of this forum allow it, and work with me along the way. I’m happy to be attempting something new, and hope to see this become something we can all take some fun away from. We’re all in this together, so let’s make something worth reading out of this forum once again.
Oh and small note, if any youtubers are reading this and want some free video material, or if anyone wishes to emulate them in the Workshop, feel free to use these concepts as long as you feature/credit me. ;3
I dare you.
