Hero Concept layout: Sakura Shimada

So a few weeks ago TGN put a video with art for what could easily turn into OW heroes, and while I love the bike concept in the beginning I have to talk about the girl Shimada mentioned around 6:13 in the link below


So over all design seems pretty cool and if the red theme stays I’m all for it, but lets talk abilities.

Now this game seems to pride itself on coming up with unique play-styles so I’ll try to add to that:
What I’m thinking is a character that pays homage to a dynasty warriors kind of playstyle mixed in with a few other aspects as well. Just finished nier automata and one feature I loved was this shockwave produced with every swing of the weapon, so starting there we have a melee based hero using a spear or whatever is in the video that can shoot projectiles when swinging.

Abilities:
The main one in my head is a kind of charge up throw of the spear for burst damage, like a javelin throw.
Edit: Another one I thought of was pole-vault, a mobility move that can be used get yourself onto higher ground or lunge yourself at enemies which would deal melee damage OR knock-back(can’t stress ‘or’ enough).

Ultimate:
I’d like for her to have a defensive ult that gives her team a defensive buff, I’d like to name it Sentinel. How it works is she jams her spear into the ground in a sort of take a knee animation and provides an AOE for damage reduction, good for somewhat countering ults that drop in on the team so there’s a chance of survival and so that we have more defensive ults that can deal with surprise attacks and could mitigate grav-dragon without needing zenyatta.

If you have any other things to add or even tweaks please jump in.

For a bit of clarity, the shock waves would be ground based as it would be built into a 4 move combo as the standard attack (think burst fire). The javelin throw would be multi-directional, especially effective against Pharah.

A sister shimada would be cool lore wise, and gameplay wise.

I pretty much designed her around the javelin throw, sentinel was something I wanted in hammond but that was turned into adaptive shield so its all good. Pretty much the only thing I didn’t have was a design for her so Thanks TGN!

The question is, does it really matter if there is a Shimada sister? We have the cinematic saying two great dragon brothers and it mentions nothing of a 3rd sibling.

I still feel the 3rd shimada if they ever do one, should not be a shimada at all, and rather a romantic interest for Hanzo and maybe Genji as well. She could be the reason there is no shimada gang anymore, via betrayal or some sort of intrigue.

In most of what I know of Japanese culture, clad heads are almost always male with females being married off because they likely won’t inherit anything. Even if the future male leader dies, if he had a sister she’s responsible for producing a male offspring to be groomed as the next leader. There would be no need to mention her at all. Plus, with as little lore as we’ve gotten would it really be a problem?

The shimadas recent bloodline has only been described as “two great dragon brothers” mentioning a sister now is redundant and so cliche.

In my opinion this hero can be very awesome :slight_smile: the lore that this hero can bring to the game is enormous and if blizz decides to add her to the game, or at least another shimada i will be very pleased

I’d rather take the route of perhaps Sojiro being in the game, Genji and Hanzo are always curious what their father would think of them, why dont we find out? :wink:

Maybe Sojiro with cybernetics since he was “Assassinated”
