Hero Concept Lab

This thread needs to live. I need to think of a new concept, but whatever.

my idea for a hero is VANNA WHITE.
yes just VANNA
she is a support class and makes walls of puzzleboard tiles (E) so she can use letter power (right mouse) to heal her friends behind them.
also there is a revival ability (shift) because we need a second one.
and I guess she can also shoot vowel beams (left mouse)
and her ult Q is turning into a puzzleboard that cannot be damaged for 5s and shoots a ray of light directly from it

I’m trying to develop a couple of anti-CC Heroes at the moment. I’ve got ideas for classes and one or two abilities for each, but not sure how to set it all up. Might post it here and we (and anyone else interested) can work on it. Anti-CC is required at the moment with all the CC.

And thanks for reviving this topic.

That is an…unusual idea. The set-up-to-heal mechanic is interesting. Not sure whether another Res is a good idea. Not sure about the indestructible puzzleboard; it could be a bit OP for locking down areas, especially where the payload goes, unless it is so small that it is pretty worthless (or enemies can pass through, which makes no sense).

Also odd to name her after yourself.

Name:Faevys

Full Name:Hokulani Iosua

Primary:Mano Javelins (Sharp steel and wood javelins decorated with symbols and flowers. Faevys can either thrust her javelins forward, or throw them. Both methods of attack deal 50 dps. Infinite ammo.

Skill 1:Whirlpool (Faevys conjures up a whirlpool. This whirlpool will catch enemy projectiles and knock away enemies. Bounced back projectiles are only redirected, not deflected. 10 second cooldown

Skill 2: Slip N’ Slide (Faevys overflows an area around her, speeding up allies that walk through it. They also slide a little bit when they stop moving. 10 meter radius, 8 second cooldown.

Ultimate:Tsunami (Faevys overloads her gear and unleashes a huge pulse of water, forcefully sweeping away enemies caught in it. 20 meter radius, can move forward 5 meters per second.

Design. A Hawaiian woman with short curly hair with a blue plumeria symbol on each cheek. Her outfit is a traditional Hawaiian garb with obsidian armor over some parts.

Seems pretty good. Mano Javelins seems useful for both close-ranged and mid-ranged combat. Slip n’ slide…maybe have it so the speed-up effect applies to allies and the skid effect applies to enemies (so you can use it in combination with a boop to help throw an enemy off a ledge with greater ease or something like that). Tsunami also looks interesting, although may be a bit OP with ledges. Whirlpool could be handy for blocking off anemy attacks.

I absolutely love this concept, really fun and well thought out, sounds like a really fun mix of zen and lucio’s playstyles without compromising the feel of being a dps thanks to the minor stun of Chew Toy and the simple elegance of the shotgun. A suggestion though?

It’s high range and (ultimate wise) long duration make it feel quite strong at a glance, but then it’s limited uses in a lot of situations makes it feel almost weak, my suggestion? I’d shift some of this ultimate’s power a round a little, namely by reducing the duration to 3 seconds and having it be a very fast charging ult, akin to Symmetra’s, though probably not as fast, perhaps 1100-1200 required charge (I know that you didn’t specify ult charge time/rate here but I assumed it wasn’t meant as a super frequent ult). A fast charging ult with a shorter duration would, I think, feel much better as a reliable counter measure in more situations.
(Also you didn’t state whether the current Aura from Waffle would stay in effect while using Inspiring Howl, and if your plan was for the aura to stop when the ult is active, I say it should stay on, just because I think it would feel best)

I’ve been told that we need a hero that is so difficult to play that only the very best players who dedicate 20 hours per day practicing can use the immense power…

So, I think the next hero should have to thread a needle with a string-gun. The gun shoots a tiny, almost invisible, thread and you have to hit a number of needle-eyes at a long range distance. But when you finally string all the needles you activate a “nuke the enemy” ultimate that kills the entire enemy team all at once and gives them radiation poisoning that ticks for 100 damage per second once they respawn.

I WANT Vanna White to be OP. She was named after a game show hostess who I based my own name on. I like Vanna.

The undamagable puzzleboard was basically made because I think ults should give temporary inability to damage, or at least inability to kill. I kinda find it as a stalling technique with a lil damage from the ray of light.

I like this thread, I might actually post my two DoT themed hero concepts (Fire and poison) here eventually. I gotta find them again but it’s nice to see a place on the forums for this kinda thing now.

It is an interesting concept (for one of my concepts, I did consider an Ultimate that basically prevented an enemy from entering an area; not sure whether to keep in any form, but presently toned down so they are just unable to attack but still able to move or use abilities in the area). Balance is still important, and the rest of the concept seems pretty interesting.
Interesting where you got the name from.

Glad you like it! It is a shame how so few Hero concept threads get over 20 posts. There was a Sylvia Hero concept that got about 50 posts (on the list of concepts to read and comment on once I get some spare time), there was another thread similar to this one:

And it got a decent few posts. This one has mainly gone on for as long as it has because of a couple posts every few days and NexusYoshi. I had hoped for a bit more discussion, but it is in a pretty decent state.
It would be nice to have a proper forum to do all of this, since at the moment these threads don’t get massive attention and are constantly drowned out by various “NERF ____ HERO IMEDIATELY OR ELSE I QUIT!!!1!!!” threads (like a lot of other great topics out there).

Name: Dr Nan
Full name; Dr Akiama Nanamoto
Role: Defence/support
Affiliation: Talon

Playstyle.
Dr Nan is a scientist, meant to be played switching in and out of his ultimate.
Ultimate ability is a role switch ability that quickly charges up by infecting enemies with nanites.

Primary weapon: Peashooter handgun. (Nanite shot)
Shoots a projectile bullet dealing minimal dmg that injects the host with nanites.
Several nanite shot shots builds up inside the target. up to (5x?)
unlimited duration until activation, or the target uses a healthpack*.

Secondary: Activation signal.
Dr Nan sends an activation signal from his weapon, triggering the activation program inside the fired nanites. Causing them to start attacking the host(s)

Once activated, Nanites act like a poison. Attacking the host for slow dmg up to fast, depending on the amount of stacks of nanites that was stored inside each target.

(*Note, using a healthpack before Dr nan fires his activation signal, will clear any stack of UNactivated nanites, and is the only way to clear away stacks, no effect on activated nanites)

Skill 1: Nanite trap
Fires a projectile (Similar to widows, widow mine) At the target location.
Releases nanites in a cloud X/Y range of being activated by nearby enemies.
Infecting targets with nanites. Up to (5x) stacks.

Skill 2: Stealth protocols
Activation time, 1.5 seconds.
(Flavor text) Giving the good doctor the opportunity to sneak up on you and give you your shots.
Effect:
Dr Nan activates a stealth function in his private nanites inside his body. As well as puts a silencer on his gun, Granting him stealth for 8 seconds, where he can fire his gun without breaking stealth for the duration)

Ultimate: Nanite remote control centre
Role switching ability. Grants new abilities while in use.

Dr nan fires a container of highly concentrated specialized nanites at a friendly target meant to assist the targeted player.
While enabling shields around Dr nan increasing his survivability.

Gives said player a x100 stack of friendly nanites. (Consumable resource)

Visual:
At the activation of his ultimate, he enters a inmobile state in his current location, where several holografic screens appear around him which he directs all his attention at in amazement.
The players visual feed is switched to spectate mode for the player he or she targeted for Nanite Remote control centre.

Skill 1 (SHIFT): Repair protocols.
(5 nanite consumption a sec)
Orders the nanites to start consuming themselves, to repair the host.

Skill 2: (E) Refresh
(20 sec cd)
(20 nanite consumption)
Instantly resets the target players E and Shift Ability CD’s.

(Tab ult again, to exit support mode but loose contact with the friendly stacks of nanites=ult reset)

This hero is meant to be played like abathur in hero’s of the storm during his ultimate.

You infect targets with nanites, activate them to spread a poison effect inside affected targets, (unless they clear away stacks with h-packs)
Then you choose a target to synnergise with.

Giving them the option of a true pocket heal, with the possible double use of abilities.

Double-reflect genji, double orb Moira, shield reset winston(and HALT) Orisa.
Ress cd reset for mercy, (but unlikely)

Meaning you have to have a real awareness of each ability a hero might have to pick your target. When to use it, and whom to use it on.

This does mean you leave yourself open to be attacked by flankers as you pretty much become a sym construct, unable to defend yourself while the ult is in use.

Interesting idea. The nanite buildup mechanic seems pretty useful for prepping for burst damage. Maybe have it so stacks decay over time, so someone doesn’t end up being blasted because they accumulated nanites slowly over the battle (it can still hang around for a decent time, but the limit would probably help). Stealth Protocols seems handy as both an ambush and a getaway; maybe tone down the time a bit as otherwise it sounds a bit like a Sombra’s Stealth that isn’t cancelled by attacking.

With the Ultimate, it seems like an interesting concept. One way it could be changed is that Dr. Nan requires a minimum charge to activate the Ultimate, but then can “overcharge” it to increase the Nanites provided. Possibly also allow him to still return to the Ultimate for a short time after cancelling it so he can handle anyone assaulting him quickly (or at least force them away) before returning (probably make it so he can only do it once or it causes rapid decay of the nanites).
Not sure whether it needs change, but this is one way.

why i decided to give it, double her activation time before entering stealth in exchange for the extra seconds of actual operating time.

This could be added yeah, but also why i added the healthpack removal option. It would make players be aware they had the nanites instead of a “its go away in a bit if my healer heals me”

i thought about that, but ultimatly decided against it to make it a two edged sword that wont be to OP if used right. It needs a weakness, and even if rapid decay is one. Id sooner see it as a loss due to the potential “He got to caught up in his work again…” side comment from Moira in case Dr nan dies while ulting x’D

Ok.

I’ve been wanting to do this one for a while.

Name:Lynx 17

Design:Beside a few pieces of armor and his weapons, pretty much the same as his comic appearance. (Including the adorable ears!)

Primary:Code Generator (Lynx uses two devices worn on his wrists to generate and fire code. The code appears as blue Binary code. This code is fired in small bursts. 75 dps. 20 ammo. 2 shots per seconds.

Skill 1:Identification Scanner (Lynx uses his Code Generators to project a passive ray. This ray will reveal the health and ult charge of anyone caught in it. It has a 5 meter radius, active for 2 seconds. 8 second cooldown.

Skill 2:Trojan Virus (Lynx fires a a homing projectile at an enemy. This projectile overrides the enemy’s screen and blinds them. No damage, 8 second cd.

Secondary Fire:Glitch Ray (Lynx puts his Generators together and projects a small ray which stuns anyone caught in a 6 meter radius in front of him. Consumes 10 ammo.

Ultimate:Data Corruption (Lynx locks onto an enemy of his choice and fires a laser at them. The enemy loses all of their ult charge instantly and can’t gain any for 5 seconds. Can delete ults being casted, can be blocked.

Lynx is certainly a popular character.

Edit: Cool! Identification Scanner looks helpful particularly for newer players (and guys like me who have no idea how fast Ultimates charge). Glitch Ray is probably a bit OP, especially considering the Brigitte debacle going around (and it would be a shame to see a concept hated because of this). Trojan Virus seems pretty interesting; maybe also screw up the controls (so left goes right, up goes down, E and Lshift swap as do left-click and right-click, etc.)? Code Generator and Data Corruption look pretty useful.

Just did, sorry about that!

heres how goku in ow would work: his ult is super saiyan, using this ult doesnt set the ult charge to 0% but rather graudally decreases, however if goku does enough damage to keep gaining ult charge he can charge back up to 200% and go super saiyan 2, and so on. his main attack would be punching his E would be kamehameha and his passive would be having a 3 dimensional flight like mercy’s ult with a charge like pharahs jetpack

All cool.

Ok… Odd to put a Dragonball character on the Overwatch forums.
No other comment since I don’t watch Dragonball.

What do you think about their kit?
