I’ve been playing overwatch for many years, and I’m can’t believe some of the balance team descisions made. This is going to be a long post and I’m going to cover my opinions on every hero and where I think they should be and how they should be balanced.
Lets start with my general philosophy. I think this game needs to go back to dps being the most impactful. When dps was the most impactful role, the game was thriving. The game was a game where the most skilled players won, but thats not overwatch anymore and I think that’s not a good thing for the game. Because of a few heros being able to completely negate skillful plays that should carry games, it feels like I lose to a lot of teams that aren’t as skilled as me but pick better heros.
Ok Here we go, these are changes to heroes on how they are right now (patch before reaper buff).
TANKS
DVA
- Defense matrix is no longer on a resource bar, it is a cooldown ability that lasts for 2 seconds and has a cooldown of 8 seconds after the 2 seconds runs out.
Ok, look. DVA does way more than any hero in the game needs to do. Her defense matrix needs to be a MUST USE ability not a convient lifesaver. She still has crazy mobility, sustain, and an insane ult. This is how you fix goats and put DPS back on top.
Orisa (In a good spot)
Reinhardt (In a good spot)
Roadhog
- Reverted back to 4 shots with more damage and slower fire rate
- Heal no longer works while moving and doesn’t provide damage reduction
I loved the old Roadhog and just feel nostalgic for him. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable saying that this hero should dish out tons of damage and be less of a monster tank. He wouldn’t be overpowered considering Zarya bubble and Dva matrix cooldowns mirror his and its extremely outplayable.
Winston (In a good spot)
Wrecking Ball
- Very slightly reduce movement speed when rolling normally (Without using rope)
He feels a little to slippery in my opinion
Zarya (In a good spot)
DAMAGE
Ashe
- Slightly reduce movement speed when scoped in
Both ana an widowmaker get movement speed reductions but Ashe doesn’t, i think she can A-D strafe to hard while scoped considering the damage she does.
Bastion
- Primary weapon ammo reduced from 35 to 30
35 feels like he doesn’t stop shooting and never ever reloads
Doomfist
- Revert bounce mechanic back to how it used to be
The bounce was a “bug” but it was a healthy bug that allowed doomfist to create more opportunities for himself - Seismic slam reverted back to old state (lifting players up with locked movement)
I think they really went to hard on the doom nerfs and this one felt too much
Genji
- Revert very old dash bug back into the game, the one that lanched genji across the map.
Ok, this is just my opinion, I really loved that mechanic. It was a bug, but again, bugs can be healthy and increase the playmaking potential of the game. It was a bug of skill expression that should return so we get genjis flying through the air again. I think this bug was just too much fun to get rid of.
Hanzo
- I think Hanzo was healthier for the game when he was much harder to play, I think scatter was better than rapid fire. Hanzo should be a high risk high reward character, someone capable of carrying insanely hard in very skilled hands, I think hes to easy right now and I want to see his old playstyle back
- Arrow projectile speed reduced 10%
- Rapid fire has been removed and replaced with scatter
- Scatter arrows only ricochet one before disappearing making any around-the-coner shots require good placement.
Junkrat (Actually in a very good spot, they nailed him)
McCree (Also, in a very good spot even with insane right-click. He needed it)
Mei (VERY GOOD SPOT!)
Pharah
- Reverted back to old rockets that shoot slower and do more splash damage
I found there primary weapon changes completely unnecessary and I thought pharah was in a fantastic spot before the changes
Reaper (In a good spot 15% lifesteal)
- Buffing reaper will not fix goats, please leave him, he is in a good spot. He is a niche hero that is super effective in some circumstances and garbage in others, and THATS OK.
Soldier 76
- Primary weapon now does 20 damage from 19
- Spread begins increasing after 3rd shot
Soldier is bad right now, I find it completely unreasonable that bastion, baby DVA, and Mercy do 20 damge with their primary weapons but soldier doesn’t. I think he is completely useless now that ashe is in the game and he needs to pack more of a punch. If we are going to buff McCree’s right-click and introduce 85-170 dmg per shot ashe we must get soldier back to hitting hard. He just shoots a marshmello gun compared to McCree and Ashe, he needs more damage straight up.
Sombra (In a great spot, think they finally figured her out. Unique play style is
great for game)
Symmetra and Torbjorn
- I actually liked them before they were changed, I would prefer to have them reverted but this isn’t a must do for me. They are fine right now but they lost their unique role that no other heroes had, that “Lock them down” defensive play style made some competitive games very interesting.
Tracer
- Pulse bomb does 400 damage from 300
I had no problems with tracer before the change, this would also help get rid of goats.
Widowmaker (In a good spot)
SUPPORTS
Ana

Nano Boost no longer heals
Simple, nano should be a planned and executed buff, not a panic button save a tank that can’t die anymore
Brigitte (In a good spot)
Lucio

Speed boost aura radius doubled (MAYBE)
Lucio’s old speed boost organized the game very well. Now, lucio’s speed boost feels like it encourages death balling, having a larger speed boost aura would make team fights have more flow and spread the game out a little bit.
Mercy
- Revert back to old state (5 man res mercy)
Revert Mercy to the old state when her ult revived the whole team. I think reviving people who get picked with a basic ability ruins skill. It’s so powerful that if you want to bring teammates back into a fight, you should be spending an ult on that. It also made the game very interesting when trying to hunt a mercy who had res and mercy players could make big plays. This is how you bring back getting huge picks and making them count.
Moira (In a good spot)
Zenyatta
- Ultamite ability has a 0.75s cast time
Make’s zen’s ult less of a panic button and more of a planned ultimate. For an ult as strong as trans I think there should be a small window to outplay the zen and take him down quickly.
Basically, I think the game has lost some of its strongest elements and I think we should go back to what we had right. I think they changed some heroes that never needed changes and I think they changed some heroes for the better. But I think those changes would usher in a great era for overwatch players.
