I just want to see the community’s opinions on hero bans. That way we can have a better understanding of how many people like this change.

Hate them, want them gone.
Not really, but I think they could be adjusted somehow. For example to have a projectile dps banned and hitscan, so we can avoid widow Cree bans every 2 weeks.
agreed
though they could remain at the pro level as they serve a very useful purpose there in terms of retaining the interest of viewership
I’d rather have a system based on OWL participants’ decisions, not playtimes in comp.
It’d allow heroes like Mei to finally be out of circ.
Well, I think that community should vote for bans, not Blizzard
The worst thing that happened to the game since 2-2-2.
Are they though? Viewership has kinda collapsed, and it is just a meta rotation at this point.
And insanely enough, Mei and Reaper are still popular in OWL but just don’t get played on ladder. Same has been true for other heroes. It’s just not the same game.
I feel like the community would be biased and vote for the most hated heroes frequently if this were the case.
Well that’s exactly what they’d do. And unironically, the most hated heroes, to my knowledge, are all DPS:
Doomfist
Mei
Widow
Hanzo.
Those would be the main 4 each week.
Hero bans?
Or hero “pools”?
I don’t like the hero pools Blizzard dubbed the system.
But I love ban systems in other games.
I think viewers get bored (and stop buying tickets) if both teams play the same heroes week in week out
hero bans help prevent (or at least limit) that
Bans/pools, I use these terms interchangeably. Is there a significant difference? I am referring to how you cannot play some heroes weekly in comp.
Noone has picked “yes” or “I love them” when I post this lmao
Well. I’m neutral
I know it’s RNG which hero gets banned but the hero bans feel less random since they changed it. I like it now.
But its not necessarily good now. For example, widow and McCree are experiencing frequent bans.
Her bans is stupid. And the IA who did this selection too.
McCree was the most picked hero every time he got banned. For widow its just bad luck. Ashe is avoiding her ban every week despite having high chanes.
I know it’s maybe unfair but that’s how RNG works.
It is actually supposed to be weighted and not pure RNG.
Even so, as long as there’s a chance, these things will happen. And frankly, whether it’s getting locked out of playing a hero every two weeks, three weeks, or four, it’s just really annoying to be locked out of playing what you enjoy.
So it sucks as it is, then if you put longer protections or more weighting in, then it risks just defeating the object of it.
The answer I wanted isn’t there so I picked neutral. The reason is that it’s too early to tell if they’re going to do anything meaningful with the bans in terms of hero ban cycling (and bad luck with the rng). We’re already seeing a bancycle form. If Blizzard backs up their claim of “aggressive balancing targeting the meta” and attack these bancycles directly, then I’ll be in support of the hero bans.
But if they just let them go on and on and on, then they’re a bit silly.
On a side note I would have liked to see what “Jeff’s Pick” bans would have been like after the “experimental” things they were doing. The few curated pools we actually got to play on didn’t really feel like they existed to encourage diversity because, you know, “experiments”
