Here are some tips on how to play Reaper properly! Reaper is NOT a flanker! Only low elos do that!

It’s gross watching low elos players play Reaper, so here are some tips on how to actually play him.

#1 Don’t Flank!

#2 Play with your tank or tanks! It’s hard to run over a tank with a Reaper right next to your tank. Have the tank push up into Reaper’s damage range. It makes it so much easier for the tank to do his or her job.

#3 Play as a unit like Spartan’s! You are weak alone!

#4 When burning down a target and you have to reload, wraith quickly to get a free reload.

#5 This is the only time you should go behind them. Teleport behind them into death blossom; usually right behind the healers. The timing must be correct. Wait until the fight is heavy or they are preoccupied.

#6 Target any Winstons and Roadhogs but beware of Roadhogs hook. Bait it when possible.

#7 Mei and Reaper work really well together. Take advantage of her freezes.

#8 Do not push past shields alone, play behind the tank and help the team shield break. Some tanks are very passive and you might have to push past shields sometimes, but at least you have a team behind you.

#9 Aim for the mid-chest. It seems to do the best damage. Only aim for the head on huge targets in a very close range.

#10 Remember Reaper is a hit and run dps, not a flanker. Hit them, you’ll take damage, wraith away, rinse and repeat. You will not likely get away behind them alone; you’ll get hunted down!

Here is how Gold elo and below play Reaper. They teleport and try to flank and get picks, which usually results in a 1v3 or 1v6 fight, with Reaper losing. Pulls off a couple of decent death blossoms and gets really excited! He starts flanking the whole game and ends up losing the match.

To add onto this, you can melee cancel the reload animation to add on some extra melee damage. I don’t know if this speeds up the animation, but you will add a little bit of melee damage if in range.

Well, I think one of the best ways to play Reaper is to use a team fight as a distraction to teleport right behind (or at a good side angle) to the enemy team. They’ll be focused on your team, this gives you a lot of time to push in from behind or an off angle to pressure their supports or hit their tanks from behind.

Obviously playing with your tanks is very strong, but I wouldn’t say only low elos do it. Heck, even my Master and Grandmaster homies talk about how strong playing Reaper that way can be.

Teleport behind
Disrupt their backline, either get picks or force a peel
Wraith form to your team
fight with tanks
repeat.

but hey, there’s no single correct playstyle for a hero.

That’s exactly how you don’t play Reaper. I’ve played both ways, playing with your tank makes your team so much stronger than playing in the back-line. You should only be playing Reaper in the back-line if you have Death Blossom handy.

Nah he’s right, it’s fine to play reaper like that. Your way is okay too I guess.
