if I spam soldier/reaper/junk i get to 2500 as soon as I stop playing those 3 and try to play genji I seriously drop to 1900.
It’s one of those characters I really WISH i could master, but I can’t wrap my head around why I can’t be an impact on my team as genji.

Genji isn’t a hero you can just pick up and do well.
Zunba: “If you want to play Genji well, I think you need to be born into it. I tried hard too, but couldn’t succeed, either.”
Prepare to invest a consider amount of time on Genji if you want to get good with him.

Genji’s really OP, easy, and has no counters. Just ask reddit or look around on the forums.

Because Genji as a hero requires something more than just hit closest target which is all solider, reaper and junkrat need.
You need both patience and foresight. Something that’s not easy to come by in shooters as a whole.

Practice, Practice, and Practice.
Genji is a hero that takes a lot of time to get used to. Just keep trying him in quick play and learning his combos along with improving other basic skills like positioning and game sense.

Put in the time and you will be fine.
Do you have a sense of self respect? If you do, Genji won’t be a good hero for you. Try someone classier like McCree, or Reinhardt.

doesn’t everybody in the game, though?
I mean you need that on mercy if you’ll go in to rez, and if you’re an offensive character with your ult. you need to foresee possible situations and wait until the time is right.

Mercy needs less of it than genji. Not saying it’s not there, it’s just not as much and even in the given situation you have at max 8 seconds to rez someone due to the channel time. Where as a good genji might spend that time if not more just holding and waiting to dive.

however you implied only genji needed it, which simply isn’t true
All heroes listed in the first quote require to some degree a level of patience and foresight.(soldier’s helix rocket, junk bombs and reaper’s wraith, genji shurikens)
But to be effective on the listed heroes you can quite literally get away with hit closest target, the same can’t be said of Genji.
…except you can? What do you mean genji can’t get away with hitting the closest person? A genji can stand behind a shield and do damage the same way if they were in the back line. Sure, unable to direct damage priority sometimes but they still are able to.
Except that you’re getting far less out of that than the aforementioned heroes.
Why would you play to your weakness ? You’re supposed to flank and pick people off, not give away your strengths in being mobile and sit behind shields firing at shields.

That’s probably why he can’t get good at genji tbh

Let’s say you’re on eichenwalde, and they have a winston, zarya and symm for memes. If the genji dives in they are straight up dead, so playing around the shield is your best option. You still are giving value and (patience) when your team kills those counters, you then move in. Simple deal.
Same would go for soldier and reaper. They have to wait to do their job sometimes, but it doesn’t mean they don’t require patience nor foresight.
T-T
I feel your pain friendo.
I think some of us just… don’t have it in us to play him effectively lol
You can always practice in qp, or even start practice games on the server browser. Good luck!
then i switch to reaper and now i’m avg 40/elim per 10 in silver(5 games)…but with genji in silver i was at 19…LMAO
there are so many things going against genji rn. its a lot harder to get value out of him these days
You’re playing him wrong most likely. Soldier/Reaper/Junk can go in swinging against large health pools. Genji requires more patience and target priority.
Genji’s main strength is being able to pick his fights and easily escape from fights that aren’t to his advantage.
