Help me improve?

Hey guys. Pretty new to OW (~400ish hours?) and was wondering who had suggestions for streamers or teams to watch that can help me get better positioning/utility knowledge on the support/tank characters I’d like to get better with. I loathe dps, it bores me, but if you just love a streamer who focuses on one of them, lay it on me. Improvement is improvement. (Don’t hate on a character, I know some of them are just awful atm, but I want to be able to fill a needed spot, and that means learning them all. Plus, maybe I’ll enjoy it when I’m not the worst dps on a team…)
For supports, I’m currently focusing on Zen, Brig, and Ana. Ana is mostly my aim, but also positioning is a struggle.
Rein and JQ are my tank focuses. If I could dps for squat, I’d like to learn Cassidy and Mei, but I’ll be open to any of them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Holyshiftkid has an introduction to Brig. He’s also a very good Brig. I found him on YT.

If you’re looking to improve with Ana, ML7 is one of the best Ana players in the world imo. His positioning is nearly always perfect, play close attention to that if you watch his channel.

I don’t have any tank suggestions for streamers. I know Flats is(was?) a Rein main, but I wouldnt watch his channel for anything other than entertainment tbh. Even then, not my cup of tea when it comes to watching him.

Honestly since you only mentioned JQ and Rein as your tanks, I would recommend dropping one of those two and picking another tank who fits in dive or poke comps. Both Rein and JQ are very rushy/brawly, and typically need a Lucio next to them to reach their full potential.

You’re not always gonna have a Lucio, and rush/brawl sometimes just won’t work against some teams. I would recommend being more flexible in fitting into/fighting against all the comps, that will help you generate consistent value.

Best of luck to you.

Awkward has educational unranked to gm series on almost every support.

Depends on rank. Rein is very good even without Lucio below Masters. Just don’t try to play him into orisa bastion zen or on high ground maps

LhCloudy is a really good rein player if you want to watch some of his gameplay. I used to main rein back in ow1 and when I wanted to learn new stuff he was one of my favorites.

Maybe supertf for tank?

Since he plays all of them fairly commonly only problem is his not majorly informative you just have to learn by watching he mainly talks comedically during his games.

I recommend checking out Awkward because his focus comes down to your mindset. Shut out the complaining, victim mentality, blaming, and just focus on yourself. IMO he’s overall the best player to learn from for education/improvement.

For entertainment & education ML7 is imo one of the best.

Wanted is good for that as well.

Super is good for entertainment at times.

I usually play Sig or Hog, occasionally Zarya if the situation calls for it. I’ve tried Doom and Ball and egads I was utter rubbish. I’d love to get good with Doom, is that what you mean for a dive comp?

You said in your topic your tank focuses are Rein and JQ. So, I thought those were what you play.

Sig, Hog, and Zar is a good tank repertoire, if thats the case.

Getting famaliar with all heroes makes you better at playing against them imo, so it can’t hurt to get good with Doom. I wouldn’t say you play a “dive” tank currently, but Zar can still sorta work in those comps.

He does, but he also never fully explains what he’s doing. It’s not a good idea to just watch him, because you’ll only learn basics. Not the reasoning beyond them, and not the more advanced things that you need to be doing and thinking about. Taking Awkward’s lessons at face value means ignoring a solid half of the hero’s kit and will not make you climb far

That is not educational, that is smurfing for ego boost on people who can’t win.

I’d argue that unless you’re already in masters+ the basics/fundamentals are the only thing you should be focusing on.

It is if you want it to be and listen to his advice.

unranked to gm are only low content for people who don’t know what to do anymore , is only smurfing and is wrong.

if he/she really wanna improve I suppose he can ask coaching to ML7 (personally I don’t like any streamer but I know sometime he do coaching, he can ask him to watch his replay and do that)

unranked to gm is wrong as hell.

Who isn’t in Masters+ at this point tbh?

And anyways, the basics are only useful if you know why you do them. That reasoning isn’t taught by Awkward at all. Knowing more advanced stuff is necessary to understand the basics. For example, ebb and flow. The advanced topic behind the constant pressure Awkward always talks about.

Most players :man_shrugging:

Cry about it. They reach GM within two hours 99% of the time.

:raising_hand_man: :raising_hand_man:

ye and in those 2 hours the games in low ranks are ruined for everyone, the carried one learn nothing. the other ones can’t do a thing about it.

Sad tbh.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I thought low Masters was the average rank when I started playing

All of these streamer suggestions are great.

However I think smaller streamers who are higher ranked are more of a go-to for me. Games are more realistic and you can actually ask them questions. So Holyshiftkid is good for that if you have brig questions.
