[Help] FPS drops noticeably in Competitive Mode only!

Hi, I have a decent PC where I can get 280fps+ normally in QP or arcade. But as soon as I start playing Competitive, fps starts to fluctuate from 210-300. Is there a reason why that’s happening?

Also when I tried to create a game with 6v6 mei to test my fps, I get unexpected server error every 2 mins or so. Anyone know what could be the reason?

my pc specs:
i7-8700k
gtx 2080
16gb 3200 rams

Thanks.

This is considered an enthusiast level question, so you may not see much official support on this topic (I’m not staff). However, you might look at the error report section in a DxDiag (all the way at the bottom) to see if any background apps are crashing or causing conflicts, which could result in fps dips.

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for your respond. This is my DxDiag errors:

I am not sure what could cause the dip. Thanks!

Do you have any third party antivirus/security apps? Try disabling those, updating Windows defender, and then see if the drops still happen. Beyond that, make sure to test your disk health and RAM health with the windows utilities. And finally, if you still have issues, monitor your temps with HWMonitor to make sure nothing is having temperature spikes.

Hi Nicole, I disabled my third party antivirus, the fps seemed to be unaffected. There isn’t any temperature spikes either. I did notice fps drop in QP as well so I think it could just be maps. But anyway, I start to accept the fact that my set up can only handle up to 230 stable fps which kinda sucks but I will just deal with it.

I have another follow up question. Right now I have 16gb rams, do you know if upgrade it to 32gb would help?
Thanks for your help!
