I came across dozens of support players on the forums in the metal ranks, hard complaining that they can’t carry their games.
Besides having X healing more than the enemy.
What most of them don’t realize is, healing/overhealing isn’t providing anything to the team at all.
As a support player you have to do damage with the exception of mercy and lifeweaver because they are healbots by design. Every other support needs to do damage between healing.
Otherwise you are doing just one half of your job.
So in Order to carry your games, stop nading your team everytime someone lost 1 hp, use it for the enemy tank.
Pls stop swapping healorb on zen everytime someone lost 1 hp.
Do damage, use your utility aggressively.
Don’t frontline pocketing your tank like a bot.
I know you all can do better and stop being hardstuck whatever rank you are.
Healing just buys time, OW still heavily based upon killing the enemy. You can’t clear the objective or capture a point without the enemy being dead.
Added to that dynamic is the fact healing has been getting nerfed for years now on top of most forms of dmg going up. Blizzard themself said they wanted to reduce the time to kill for faster game play. Not a lot of point in healing in many cases.
For instance a 30hps healer like Zen would take 20 seconds to heal DVa or ball, even if they sat out of combat and took no more dmg. Even better healers like Mercy it’s looking at like 10-12 seconds for a 600hp ally.
Mean while most forms of dps can delete hero’s in a second or two for 200hp targets and maybe 3-4 seconds against 600hp.
You have a baptiste pfp and don’t know when to weave in damage, I saw a post before how supports have to do damage and get picke to win, and I didn’t even realize the counter argument till later. ARE Y’ALL TAKING DAMAGE 24/7 are y’all not winning team fights? Are you not poking fir early damage?
Because me and multiple multiple multiple other players know when to put in damage that dosen’t mean others are able to because boo hoo my team just takes so much.
If your not pushing the high ground on Hollywood after y’all cap first point the first thing Im gonna tell you is to stop throwing… This is coming from a masters bap player…
Im not saying you have to “Hard” dps but to act like there is absolutely Zero point where you can do damage is just unrealistic…
wym can’t carry, mercy enables dps to shredd, zen discord/dmg as well, ana controlled the game with nade and nano forever, kiriko with suzu is busted and bails everyone out, same with bap and lamp, bap SHREDS!, LW with this stupid grips, moira can 1 v 2 the enemy backline or pump in a billion heals, lucio is about the only really balanced support as far as what he can do. They completely carry the game good or bad.
I do weave, but sometimes the problem is they go outside of my LOS. Yes I shouldn’t chase them, but I DO want them to live. I do worry getting targeted by behind by someone who can reach high ground.
This was a hard habit for me to break as well (chasing allies) and I do still do it somewhat because as bap you do AMAZING healing so if you can get to then you could most likely save them, it’s really just reading the situation and Seeing if its worth it, but I 100% get what you mean.
Follow Awkward advice: heal only as much so people don’t die and look for damage ALWAYS. If you are not in position to do damage, change your position. Shoot at the enemy and heal when people get critical. Just because your Cass lost 20 hp doesn’t mean you need to immediately heal him. Do your thing, shoot stuff and heal Cass once he has 150hp or lower. Shoot him once or twice and go back to killing.
I had 90+% winrate with Bap until like Masters 5 by dealing more damage than my dps. Dead enemies can’t damage you. Damaged enemies can’t safely take positions to hurt your allies. Pressure enemies so your team doesn’t take billion damage per second.
Teammates use that time to hit the enemies. If they have more time to do so, they can hit the enemy enough times to kill them, instead of dying themselves.
Or they can whiff their shots wasting their AND your time keeping them alive. take matters into your own hands and kill them yourself. Also often it’s more helpful to do damage than heal someone back to full hp. Like really, winning duel is easier when my Ana instead of healing me when I took 30 dmg is shooting enemy so I have to land less shots. Even one shot from Ana takes few bullets away that Soldier needs to land. One shot from Ana means Cass needs to land only two. It’s more valuable than heal.
The same concept applies when people are just setting up. If you pressure them before they get in comfortable spots, you make them waste time recovering and forcing to reposition. Fight back rather than healing because you can’t outheal damage coming from good angles. It’s mathematically impossible to heal damage from 5 people when you have only 2 supports. Eventually you will lose. Especially when they start target supports that keep others alive.
That is a true point, but I also don’t want to risk it because if I die, I leave my support buddy alone and it just makes it harder for the team to push/defend, imo.
Are dps players now complaing healers aren’t healing them?
Look the tank alone can bully people off point and provides enough dps to do so.
Healers are needed as a lifeline. Tanks take the space where thr objective is.
The least effective role is actuallt DPS who are suppose to take picks and eliminate the enemy. In 6v6 your job was to simply shoot the enemy.
In a 5v5 heros being played matters so much more now. Its just OP sounds like a one trick who will get fully team countered then blames his teammates for his inability to solo carry.
Again 6v6 is dead along with the days of an extra player covering for your drawbacks or mistakes. Its no longer as simple as fighting til you get ultimate. Your contribution matters.
It is so imperative in today’s format to work with your team, not force your team to work for you.
While supports providing damage and elims is key in OW2, you’ll be surprised how difficult it can be in metal ranks.
At those levels, tanks haven’t learned how to tank yet. They think they have to facetank every bit of damage coming from the enemy team. If you don’t hard pocket them, they disintegrate instantly and your team gets run over by the enemy tank who has a support hard pocket.
No. It’s the opposite. You will be surprised how easy it is, because people don’t take cover, miss shots and their positioning is… questionable. I consistently went 30-1 games in plat. It wasn’t even difficult. It didn’t matter if my other teammate died in meantime. They often didn’t, because I used the fact that they are feeding to make a play. After all if enemies are shooting my feeding tank then I can take off angle and shoot at them. It often both kept tank alive and killed enemy.
On the other hand I have no idea how people play Mercy in lower ranks. Seems insufferable keeping feeding teammates alive. I just kill people with Bap, Moira, Ana or Zen and win easily.
