I just wanna see who is on what side of the line.
Do you call them Healers or Supports, and what role do you main?
I call them Healers because that is literally their job. You can “uhm ackshually” me all you want, but in practice, they heal more than they support.

call them whatever you want but not every supports main job is to heal
also healing is supporting, they’re not two separate jobs

I hate this debate, just don’t refer to us as anything. So tired, I’m just a " " main.

Then why has it been such a headache whenever people say Healer and get barraged with “They’re actually supports!!!”
“My pronouns are _, Please do not refer to me.”

because some people just like to be awkward and get upset whenever you don’t label the role properly
I call them supports, and thats my main role. I’ve only started playing OW2 this week but certainly in OW1 many of them are picked for reasons other than healing
But I do not care about having a debate about what they should be called nor will I correct someone who calls them healers.
This isnt a controversy or a big deal.

This whole debate is silly.
I’m a Support main. Always have been. Always will be. I call them Support.
I do not get upset when players say healer. It’s just kind of dumb.

In OW in particular supports are healers.
Symmetra was a non healing support and she just didn’t have the same weight as a healer.
This is why i stick to namecalling them.
Mercy- woman or moth or medic or doc
Baptiste - budget soldier heal me i mostly say soldier.
zen - tincan heal me or orb me
Lucio - frog or squealer i dont even ask them for heals, i only name call them to rg.
Moira - woman or witch or doc if there is no mercy
Kiriko- kiri or kunaichi
Brig- brig
ana - nana or grandma
works pretty well you all should try it no useless healer or support debate.
People request that you use support instead of healer because far too many people use healer in a derogatory or denigrating manner. They say healer to pigeonhole the role into a single function, and use that as a basis to complain when the role does anything but heal; such as doing damage or using supportive abilities.
Using support is more technically correct, and avoids starting a discussion in a negative light.

It absolutely was just a couple months ago. Since OW2’s beta, there’s been an outrage to players that call the support role ‘Healers’
If they would put Supports like old Sym back on the roster I’d be more keen to say support over healer. I liked that she was a utility support and didn’t provide a speck of healing.
So you would say that the term “Healer” has become a derogatory term in the same vain as “Hanzo Main”?
And she sucked without actually having 2 other dedicated healers because healing is what wins matches.
It kind of has. At least here on the forums and similar social sites. People who try to start discussions using the term healer are often using it as a framing device to belittle the support role. Usually so they can complain about the support role, and how it’s too powerful as it’s only supposed to heal.

They are really interchangable.
Good supports heal a bunch.
Good healers dps a bunch.
With that comparison they really are the same thing. The issue is many people think healers are incapable of dmg.
They are doing dmg. Its just bad dmg compared to DPS roles.
There is no support in OW which has no-heal function. They literally are all support and healers. Separating the distinction doesn’t make sense in OW

I am a support main and I call them supports mostly but I don’t care what other people call them. It’s not really a big deal to me and I’m not sure why it’s a big controversy or people are correcting each other like yea they all have healing abilities, people aren’t calling them healers to try and be offensive it’s just that they heal people (sometimes
) in addition to other stuff. I’m sure I call them healers sometimes too when making callouts, as long as people know who you’re referring to it really shouldn’t matter.
This topic is funny too me cause both can be used interchangeably. Like some can be classed as a main healer (moira) but not as a main support. Others fit both (Bap). Whilst Brig is a main support but not a main healer (also depends on the comp). Like it depends on what your definition of the two is.
I call them support because their job is not just fixing your health bar but also give you the little help you might need in order to do something.
- Your target gets low but you can’t hit the final touch? Moira’s orb/grasp helps with the little damage needed
- High burst but not enough to finish your target with only one hit? Mercy’s burst would allow you to get that.
- Trying to chase a target but you’re too slow? Speed boost to the rescue!
They do fix your health bar, because that is the easiest way to fix the biggest mistakes (in theory, if you get hit - it means you put yourself in risk). but they do much more than just that.
