I am having a hard loosing streak. I really like to play tank. Any suggestions other than “get good”. Also, in the games I am loosing I have been getting gold medals for eliminations. I know kills don’t win the game but it adds to my frustration.
Play rein…play angry…aquaint your hammer with enemy faces…and charge on cooldown. Learn to play a fast aggressive tank. Because that’s basically what happens as you climb …game speeds up.
Ignore the DPS who tell you to shield them… you’re not a shield bot. They can learn the art of using cover. A lost art.
don’t charge on cooldown, rest of the post above applies: move into fight, and then hammer away, use your shield as your own protection, unless there is a sniper looking at you, then don’t drop the shield until you help your teammates run to next map cover
A few things that might help:
- Off tanks typically average more kill and damage than most of the dps lineup. The exception to this is brawly dps with higher time to kill and higher hp. There are a few reasons for this: pick based dps take longer to set up kills, do close to 200 damage per squish kill, and are more likely to die quickly. Tanks have the most resources and take so long to confirm a kill that they will do more damage. If you are not getting at least silver medals regularly as any tank then that’s usually not good. If you have something like Junk, Zen, and Reaper then it’s normal.
- Think about where you force your supports and dps to be based on where you are. An example is if you are keeping your Moira really far away from the enemy front line because you are timid, then she will have to go in front of your shield to recharge her juice. If she dies then that’s on you.
- You get to pick where that annoying Mei/Reaper/Doomfist terrorizes you. Make sure there is not a rock or cart between that fight and the Widowmaker that could save you. As a general rule of thumb, try to take fights at least 2 cart lengths in front of the cart. You can leave a single healer or dps to push.
- Don’t be afraid to ask your team for resources. You shouldn’t be whinny and blame people, but calling “Help your Orisa”, is helpful. Try to say the name of your hero instead of “me”.
- Tanks is a hard role to nail down. If it feels really simple then you might need to polish up your coordination and mind games. It’s also really fun when you play it like it’s the game changing role that it is.
- By existing you feed ult charge because you are using your hp pool to take space and because you take a long time to confirm kills. Try to limit feeding when it’s unnecessary and call out ults of things you took a lot of damage from. If a Hanzo was sticking tons of arrows in your shiny head then he probably has dragons and you are the only one on your team that knows that.
nowodays it is much easier to get better at tanks than on dps for example, bc of q times. If you play consistently as tank, you will improove on long range anyway. If you’re actually trying. Just take your time. Back in days before roleQ I get used for playing multiple dps comps, sometimes u loose, sometimes u win, and gg go next was a consolation prize, bc I knew you cant win them all but you need to try hard all of them and if I get better team composition or better teammates next game I will win for sure. Sad, it doesnt work anymore for dps role, since “gg go next” means stay in q for 10 min average.
Also be very aware of when you break line of sight to you heals. A lot of tanks will walk through the enemy shield in chokes or just hang a left as soon as they walk through any door/archway. I think they are instinctively making sure they can’t be snuck up on… but it really makes healing them a pain. You’re going to have to go into unhealable places from time to time, but you should make sure it’s a decision.
Well, tank is the easiest role to climb in unless you have impeccable aim, so what do you want? The closest thing I can say is just pick one tank, and play them only till you get better enough with them to climb rank.
If you notice the games are bad around a certain time dont play then. I have noticed that I get good games during the day in plat but after 9PM my teammates dont really care anymore. But for gold during the day is a TERRIBLE time to play in my experience, and the only good time is after 1AM (middle of the night).
Also, it helps watching GM players and asking them questions. Just learn from them and take that into your games. Also call out in your games. I learned from Emongg and Beaver to call out everything youre doing and what you see. It helps your team have an idea of where the enemy is how much HP they have or should have and whether or not they can push up or play passive. Hell, callouts in general are just good.
Its easy to tank if you are getting healed, but if you arent you let your team know that you need heals. If they complain just go to a self sufficient tank, like Hog or Sigma. But if they have a mei or reaper, Hog IS NOT the choice.
Observation:
- Your intention is you want to “move up” instead of getting better.
- You don’t care about “gitting gut”, you just want higher SR number. I’m sure you’re already GM tier skill wise
- Based on the two points above, your best bet is to hire a booster to boost your account or buy a preranked account with your desired SR tier
- Profit!!
lol, that’s a lot of assumption their HoldW. I guess you got me pegged. lol
I mean why bother grinding games just for your teammates to throw right? The electricity bill and time wasted playing rank probably is worth more than buying a GM account
Well candidly all video games are a waste of time unless you are GM and can make a living streaming. I just wanna have good games and climb slowly. Right now it a constant win/loose streak that is super frustrating.
Okay, seems like you have a good mindset and it was my bad for jumping on the troll mode.
On a serious note, instead of focusing on your SR number just focus on playing better. SR is a byproduct of your gameplay, not the other way around. Just keep making those carry plays, those huge shatters, those Amp+Fire strike combos, etc etc. The more you focus on your plays the less you need to worry about a number, it will go up naturally.
Also, since you’re a tank main do consider being more proactive with comms. Shotcalling is a big part of tank plays since most of the time you control the tempo of your fights. Another suggestion is to get a duo partner since it lessens your mental stress knowing you’ll have someone on the same page at all times.
This! This is why you see most streamers playing early in the day or very late at night. Climbing out of bronze in every role was a chore in prime time, but after 11pm it was fairly easy. I have seen a lot of streamers play in prime time, but that is my prime vs their location ( EU, Asia, ect… ) And for laughs, very very late games is how the guys in China and Brazil exploited the system to get rank 1. Works in almost all online games.
