Hate Moira auto aim? Watch this!

This video did the rounds years ago when Moira was added to the game and people complained about her “auto aim.” Since so many new OW2 players are also misunderstanding how her grasp works, it’s time to dust off this old classic:

TL;DR - Moira does not have auto aim.

the lock on is purely visual, the mechanic itself is like a chonky cylinder. Its not like Sym 1.0 at least

What exactly is the difference between a lock-on at a (hypothetical) 30° angle and a hitbox the size of a 30° cone?

mind you the hitbox is smaller than high charge zarya afaik

I wouldn’t call that aiming either though…

Did you watch the vidya?

A “lock on” would continue to do damage after you move your curser away from the target.

The moment moria’s beam leaves the player hitbox it stops damaging.

It’s all in the video…

I didn’t watch it because it’s irrelevant.

No one complains about Moira because her beam stays on target after they turn around. Precisely because that’s not how it works. You are right. People complain about it because the cone is so big.

Yes, they call it “lock-on”. Yes, they don’t use the correct, established technical verbology ( ). Do they mean that Moiras beam sticks to the target even though they turn around? No. No, they don’t.

Does it matter? Does it change anything? No.

It absolutely does because it proves moira’s beam does not lock on, but the person controlling her aims well enough to never have the animation of the beam break away.

Thus, moria has no lock on, the player just aims well with her.

“Aims well” is a tough sell with Moira.

But again, no one who says they dislike Moira lock-on means that Moira actually, technically locks-on. They mean that they dislike the huge cone of her beam’s hitbox.

I want them to do an April Fools joke where they add auto lock for Moira for a whole weekend

so I can click on someone and turn away from them at 20m away and nom nom nom nom, it’s a dream of mine to actually experience an actual aimlock Moira for a day lol :sunglasses:

You are saying someone is not able to aim poorly with Moira?

I beg to differ, I am terrible with her for some reason.

That means, by comparison to me, some people are able to aim well with Moira.

Also, no. You don’t see dozens of “Moira’s beam is to biiiiiig” threads.

It’s “Moria shouldn’t lock on”

See? You say “aim well”, I disagreed because when I say “aim well” I think of something more than hitting a barn door with a shotgun.
Now you explained what you meant, I know what you meant, and we agree.

Exactly the same thing with “Moira lockon”.

If people can’t even be bothered to understand the hero, should people take them complaining about the hero seriously?

Mostly they are just saying it to troll now, so basically signaling you can ignore them.

I know. Which is why I say they mean “beam is too big” when they say “lock on”.

Nope, cuz she does not lock.

The proof is in the video, you HAVE NOT WATCHED, by your own admission.

You don’t seem to get the point. I’ll just back out of our discussion quietly  (quietly, he says, while posting about it)

You can’t just pick what someone means to say, when they say something completely different

Can we never have Moira and “aim well” in the same sentence again? Just no, Moira doesn’t need to have good aim for her not to break the beam. The beam is just that massive.

The visuals even showed it had 3-4x the hitbox of a Zarya beam.

You’re not convincing anyone that Moira players have to aim. Lock on, giant hitbox, nobody cares what the correct term is when the outcome is the same; you can have garbage aim and maintain 100% accuracy
