Yup. They tend to latch onto any piece of news, however insignificant, if it involves a public statement from Jeff.
Hereâs the whole story from the beginning:
A player was banned for cheating. After trying to appeal their ban with Customer Support (Who upheld the ban), they posted a forum thread claiming that they were innocent and falsely banned. Forumers who looked at this playerâs profile noticed some very suspicious statistics; despite being a bronze DPS player with an abysmal winrate, this person had a weapon accuracy that rivaled Grandmaster players.
The banned player also made a blunder; he posted personal information including his Gmail and personal Discord server on the forums, giving the general public full access to both.
Eventually, Jeff came in and personally posted in the thread, saying that the account was found to be cheating and that they would be upholding the ban. After a while, the thread was locked. Then the player who got banned created a new thread, continuing to protest his innocence and complaining about receiving death threats.
So⊠here we are.

I see, thanks for catching me up.
True, though I would personally not waste my time calling out cheaters.

Well, if your job was getting paid to sit in front of a microphone and talk, you might change your tune. Not that I enjoy watching Overwatch news channels that post such dull, insignificant news.

Fair, though I am happy that is not my job.
Round two, huh?
You really want Jeff to come prove you wrong again?
Maybe you shouldnât play the victim when youâre the predator.
You got caught cheating, for that there is no remedy whatsoever - you learn and donât do it again. The fact that youâre still playing is evading a rightful ban and is in itself grounds for more bans.
If you are getting death threats I suggest reporting these to the host services like Discord and so on as well as your local police.

Because itâs entertaining to read the salt. Even better when Jeff replies to them

Death threats etc are not cool, buuuuuuuuut weâve all only got so much time in the day and cares to give. Itâs unlikely anyone could be bothered caring about your plight seeing as Jeff verified you got banned for stuff installed rather than people flagging you as a cheat
Bronze Damage, Diamond Support lol
Also victimless âpositive attentionâ for the devs. Win win.
I donât think heâs really trying to fool anyone, just that the only card left to play is flat out denial of everything. Think politicians denying stuff despite video evidence. It happened, but what are you gonna doâŠ

To be clear for anyone saying it. I am not circumventing the ban system. It should be no secret to the devs if they wish to find out that I have other accounts and what accounts those are. My other accounts simply were not actioned.
Donât cheat next time. You need to repent for your sin.
Regardless of if the user actually cheated or not, it was quite unprofessional of the main developer of the game to come in here and publicly declare them a cheater. Kaplan basically set the user up to be publicly ridiculed and harassed, something the game claims to be against. He and the Overwatch Team should have private messaged the user, but they didnât. Actually kind of disgusting.

You reap what you sow. You not only cheat and ruin games of others but then you came to the forum and tried to lie about it and spread misinformation. Tried to create some kind of commotion. And coupled with your user name, I donât think you are innocent.
How many games did you ruin for other players?
Even though, people who send death threats arenât so different from cheaters IMO. On the very slim chance, if you are innocent then I feel sorry for you. But I donât think you are, and I hope you will learn from this and change your path for your own sake.
Youâre pandering for forgiveness when you showed complete disregard for the legitimacy and health of the game. It doesnât work like that.
Itâs a two way street. Please go play something else.
Actually Jeff didnât. This guys did it himself. He start the forum post by himself told every one he got banned and tried to accuse Overwatch team for wrongfully banning him. Jeff has every right to defend himself and his team.
He tried to defend himself with lies, and accuse the dev team of banning him for no reason, Jeff had every right to do what he did, if he didnât want to be made a fool of, he shouldnât have cheated and tried to deny it.
The user claimed to be falsely banned. I understand where you are coming from, but it is highly unprofessional to be the game developer and publicly declare them a cheater. Because on a public forum, that means every other user is now given the ability to spit on the banned user. Thatâs not our job. Why are all the other âI was falsely bannedâ threads simply locked? Why is this a special case where harassment was allowed? It was wrong and disgusting. The Overwatch Team should have privately contacted the user.
