Has toxicity increased recently?

With the start of season 5 my friends and I started seeing a significant increase in toxicity. Not to say it wasn’t common before, but we used to only get one or two matches per day that had someone being toxic, but now it’s pretty much every other match where you have someone spewing “gamer words” in chat. I used to feel it was worth putting up with that stuff for the few matches where people were being nice and making jokes and just having fun, but now I’m considering joining the “disable all chats-gang” because of how bad it’s gotten.

How has it been for y’all though? Have you also noticed an increase in toxicity, or has it remained the same, or even decreased in your experience?

Actually seen far more positive banter in QP-chat like commending shots and plays. It’s just random.

i think it stays the same. Sometimes I have to turn off the chat because i’m a player whose nickname is written in Cyrillic which by default means to most now that I am a “bad” Russian :upside_down_face:

well ignoring the fact that one of my dps called me trash at brig while my teammates were saying i was hard carrying, 99% havent been experiencing it. but ive def noticed a LOT of toxicity recently.

Given I imagine a huge chunk of the crowd waiting for PvE who left after the disappointment were more of the dedicated, casual types, it would make sense that more toxicity would be noticeable if they left.

Of course it could just be anecdotal, but the logic is there.

Honestly it’s been about the same, but I noticed since I started playing Support way more often, I get way nicer teammates. Sometimes I do bad, but I had a session recently with an awesome team, and when 4 of us all matched into the same game together, team chat was awesome. Just a bunch of “WE GO AGAIN!” hahaha

i’ve noticed bad dps in my support games specifically at the start of this month

Same amount of trash talk (just mute and report), but the increase has been trolls who sit around spamming hello and doing emotes in game because they’re only playing to get their amount of games in for challenges. It’s made it playing 5 v. 4 because of this.

In a team game, playing poorly is being toxic. Telling people they are playing poorly is not being toxic.

Blizzard have encouraged people who play poorly to report people who dare to require they step up.

The more you play, the greater your chances of being reported whatever you do in game.

The result is a far less skilled player base, almost silent chat and fewer tanks and support specialists in the game.

Only good vibes in both text and voice, even when we lose.

I get flamed more often for having low damage after they introduced the scoreboard

No, because fewer people are playing. Yes, because the non-toxic players have already quit and thus created a higher concentration of toxicity.

No meaningful content and broken promise on meaningful content = people mad, and nowhere to vent their frustration properly, so they take it out on each other. Not surprising.

Same pretty much :person_shrugging:

The game became free so every toxic selfish player create many alts and to play against lower skilled players that refuse to play on their main. They don’t care being muted/ban because they can just create another alt.
And the non toxic players obviously will leave the game because why would a sane person put up with it so only the toxic players will stay and their numbers increase.

The word toxicity should be replaced with coaching. Think of it like that-the folks telling you that you are tier lvl trash at the game are just coaching you up!

Got that yesterday… Im soo mutch use to toxic PPL in this game that the complement I get feelt like attempt to moking me and not gona lie I was confused like AM I complemented that I made sniper like kill with none sniper hero from longer dostanie than previous widow state or it was more like “oh nice shot from that “skill hero” spamer”.

It’s the same as it was before because Blizzard and the ignorant posters on this forum refuse to believe that removing chat with the enemy team would reduce or permanently prevent toxicity on one side. Heads in the sand pretending everything is okay or deflecting the toxicity blame onto team chat so they can continue harassing the other team.

Basically Blizzard could easily put a stop to most of it for good but they won’t despite doing it for World of Warcraft and Heroes of The Storm.

I’ve seen more gamer words and sexism in the past 2 months than in the past 2 years. I have no idea what’s happening in online gaming.
