I’m not sure how you would go about expressing that people are in a group, aside from coloring their names different? like you have three duos on one team, duo A is green, duo B is yellow and duo C is red
the old system was fine, blizzard decided to slap on duct tape on the problem and call it a day, you used to be able to see when people are grouped up with a while line connected, its still on qp but they removed that in comp so you never know if the enemy is in a six stack or random people.
its not a bug, when qp had role lock it was addressed the same day, but this has been ignored despite many people talking about it, just a duct tape on the problem.
Blizzard removed the ability to see groups in Heroes of the Storm matches, with the rationale that it would reduce toxicity / throwing / leaving. I suspect that they’ve done the same thing with Overwatch for the same reasons.
It wasn’t perfect before, though. To hide the group, people used to just leave the group after the match started, which made it look like all solo queue or a small group instead of a large one. I’m pretty sure most of these were boost groups.
Indeed, the result is that people are complaining less about stacks, and more about “smurfs” and bad matchmaking.
At least before we knew why we got stomped – oh that was a 6-stack against two 2-stacks with Hanzo mains and 2 solos. Now it just looks like the new role queue is screwing us for no reason now and then.
It’s not a huge issue for me but part of my strategy as a solo quer was to dunk on the 3-stack or at least one member to embarrass him or have his team tilt. (non group members usually)
It also helps me identify people who may work together who should be my priority.
Stacks already have an advantage, being aware of that advantage did a lot of good.
Actually, if you think well, it would be a good idea to leave it as it is. I mean, if you know the enemy team is stacking, what can you do, aside from being toxic? I mean, not you, but the ow common player. So it’s a way to decrease toxicity, which I agree, although I rarely met toxic people in these days.
If it’s a 6-stack, nothing. But 2s and 3s are very useful to know about for gameplay. In general, they work together better than other players within their group, but work more poorly with the rest of the team. For example, if you see a duo of Ashe and Mercy, you can focus on killing the other DPS who will probably get little or no healing from Mercy.
Wait so you can’t see groups anymore? Didn’t they put that feature in just because there was a frick ton posts, complaints, speculations and all that jazz around the whole group vs. individuals and how unfair it is and how important it is to know if your opponents are most likely coordinating through voice comms and and and and…? It was the community who asked for the change and literally everyone was happy and praised the change and from then on there hasn’t been any discussion towards the transparency of groups because there’s nothing wrong so there’s nothing to discuss about since most topics considering groups are about matchmaking and not about that you can see that there’s a group
If this is really a feature and not a bug then I’ll predict a similar 180 that they did back when they decided to remove MH from being a staple gamemode since the backlash is going to be bigger than what they must expect…
It was the first thread that I made when the patch landed.
I am pretty disappointed it didn’t get much attention cuz it is very alarming when Blizzard is making shady stuff like this. First it was the hidden profiles with removed sr matchmaking for QP and arcade and now this.
Instead of adding solo q only and make it fair as what a competitive game should be they just wipe stuff under the rug as if no one will notice.
I can only imagine how much rigged the matchmaking is if they try to hide even small things like this.
Is this something to really be concerned about? It’s a team game. If you enter the competitive mode, you should assume the enemy team will be coordinated and communicating. You should do what you can to help your team do the same.
If not everyone on your team is willing to do that, oh well. It’s part of the price you pay for having the benefit of playing when you want instead of taking a little time to form a long term team. Ever choice has consequences, both positive and negative.
yes it is something you should be concerned about, its a “team game” not a friend game, when im playing with random teammates im expecting my enemy to be random people too not friends that have been playing together for a while and have good communication.
