I was away from like 4 minths or so, literally nothing has changed. Doomfist, Genji, Moira and Brig posts everywhere. No wonder even the Devs prefer Reddit.
The internet is much cleaner now.
These forums remind me a lot of people arguing on facebook.
I realize that’s the internet… but I spend time on a few other forums… this has got to be the worst one as far as daily discussions go that I’ve seen… and yet is also the most entertaining.
When I joined this board in 2017, the moderation was very strict and active, which limited the toxicity, now there is barely any moderation.
just looking through the first page of threads, it actually isn’t as bad as you make it out to be. Not every suggestion is a complaint and the forum is here to make complaints and discussions about the game…

Unfortunately so, the forums have both causal and competitive players. Which is like putting Tigers and Bears in the same room.
Though most regulars are actually very nice and cool people. So not everyone is toxic.

It hasn’t but I think a big part of why it is so bad is that initially the devs only responded to some of the most toxic threads calling them out. Conversely a lot of the larger discussion threads that tried to more or less to remain constructive went largely ignored.

Only the most controversial topics get any decent amount of responses. Any reasonable topics get ignored because there’s nothing to disagree with, and they get bumped down accordingly because this system is whack and outdated, honestly.

These are discussion forums, what is there to discuss if everyone agrees with each other and says how everything is fine? A discussion is almost inherently negative, it’s really hard for strangers to come together and “jam” about how great something is.
It’s a little bit of a Circle… you fill in the blank.
The problem is people lack the etiquette to really engage negative points without becoming toxic about it, it’s a skill we all have to learn and many of us never learn it.

It’s an unusual forum because it’s made up of two groups, people who love the game and people who love specific heroes. The ones who really love specific heroes take it especially hard when buffs or nerfs affect their hero even indirectly. That and the fact that the game was designed with the idea in mind that people would play many heroes creates a lot of friction within the community.
