I remember when I’d just gotten to Diamond (and was starting to scrim as hitscan) Iwas playing comp and getting ABSOLUTELY diff’d by this GM Smurf (doing his millionth unranked to GM no doubt).
Our Mercy (toxic as always) was flaming me for being bad. I was like, “sorry mercy, I’m only a Diamond player. I can’t do it alone.”
The only tank in chat was like (don’t worry homie, I got you).
So he swapped from Hog to ball and was like, I’m gonna slam widow, when I say Now, you peak and shoot that bish!!
So we proceeded to double team the Smurf for the rest of the game and we forced him off widow.
We clutched out the win because the widow went Cree and I rolled him as Hanzo.
That’s a great story. It really is; those are the moments that stand out and you remember fondly (I’m sure they’re much rarer on ladder than scrims obviously).
Reminds me of a match where I even had to go back and watch a replay because it was just that awesome. One time on Anubis point A, I was near the double arches, playing Rein and for some reason I had gotten badly out of position. I think I’d planned to use charge to basically quick-travel to a nearby corner and take out a lone wolf, right side, not far from the mini-pack and the steps leading up to the overlook over point. But I missed the corner (because apparently a building wasn’t a big enough target for me). My team was still back by the entrance. The enemy team had noticed and were closing in on me. Shield was breaking, and they were starting to chip me down. My healers noticed what was happening, so my Lucio speeds over my Ana, she rocks them with a grenade, sleeps their shield tank, and then nanos me, we take out like four of them, storm the point, and clean up the rest. It’s one of those “you had to be there” occasions, but it was one of those spectacular gift-wrapped moments OW gives you every now and then.
I realize I bash Overwatch a lot, and talk about how flawed the community is, or how ridiculous the process of working with random people is, but lots of times whenever Overwatch was not busy being bad, it can be absolutely amazing. And the worst things about it (the completely clownish lack of coordination) sometimes do turn into the most amazing moments (based on the team).
In a way, I do feel bad for Jeff, because I know when they were play testing the game with other sane, civil, reasonable human beings, they were probably creating these moments constantly and they couldn’t wait to give that to the gaming community, and then, well, people happened.
Support diff if your supports neglect to heal. I am not talking about feeding in the backline and not getting healed. I am talking about being in los or right next to them and not getting healed. But if your supports are bad but still heal then a MTD is definitely the hardest.
Rein or Dva difference . There’s a lot of people playing these two heroes and doing it really wrong. Taking way too much damage and it just feeds ult charge and the support can’t focus on anyone else… but when you have a really well played and supported rein or Dva it is really noticeable.
Maybe roadhog and ball too actually, especially the ones who think they are playing a solo game and that they did good getting a pick and then dying while everyone else is in respawn.
Unfortunately there’s a lot of bad ball players that give the hero a bad rep. Tons of good ones too though and when ball is played properly he’s one of the best tanks in the game
Anyone who believes that you can reduce the outcome of a match to a single role has hopefully never achieved a rank above platinum.
Every time I read something like that, I have to cringe a little. Who was the Youtuber who started it?
Tank diff. Part of the reason why I’m starting to prefer playing tank in competitive mode. Playing support when you get matched with mediocre tank player is not very fun to say the least. When I play tank and lose games due to team-diff, I at least know that I’ve done a good job.
But when I play support, it’s hard for me to contribute to the team if they’re constantly dead. And scoreboard doesn’t show it either because my stats are lower than the enemy supports who just AFK healed and got carried by their teammates.
When matchmaker gives me a fair game though, playing support can be super fun however. But for me, tank is the only role that still feels fun to play when I get unbalanced matchmaking.
Just had a game where the enemy had a bastion sym duo who would tele the bastion into the backline where a sig shield was ready and waiting for him. That was a hard diff.
