Hardcounters are bad for game

This is why game is bad rn.

I agree. No hero should just shutdown another, there needs to be room for an outplay. Pyro counter’s Demo, but Demo can just mix up the timing of his pills, that’s a fair soft counter.

Still, with the latest changes, the game is surely going towards hard counters.

Reaper after his recent buff in spread and lifesteal, means no tanker outside maybe Roadhog can even think about taking him on, when back in the days the game was new you could pull some out-plays as D.va or Reinhardt.

Most things now are Hard-counters to each other, most of the time you’re playing a 3D rock-paper-siscors simulator with a lot of bright lights.

Agreed. A good Tracer player will pretty much never get to play their main successfully because someone on the enemy team will go Brig and even if the good Tracer player can avoid getting killed by the Brig the Brig will still make them completely useless no matter what.

Rock papers scissors sucks.

Reaper that has other problems that are preventing him from being picked that have not been addressed yet.

Tracer can outplay Brig actually, since the latter’s skill ceiling cuts off at a certain point, so that’s not really a great example.

A better example would be something like Junkrat vs Pharah

You do realize that Tracer is completely useless for the rest of the game when Brig presses Q, right?

Rest of the game? Hardly.

For that fight? yes.

She literally can’t. As soon as Brig gets her first ult the Tracer won’t be able to kill anything, armor counters her super hard. The Brig literally just has to exist.

Oh, I nearly forgot. Every character Tracer wants to dive also cannot be killed, since Brig can press E.

And for at least two fights, if Brig’s teams wins, which will likely be the case since one of the DPS of the other team will be worthless.

How would you make it so, for example, Genji doesn’t hard counter Mercy or Bastion anymore?

The real issue is that the countering system is inconsistent. Some heroes have a few soft counters at most while others get utterly shut down with not much chance. Either everyone should have counters or no one should. Take your pick.

brigette’s existence zones out tracer. and the armor she gives to teammates make tracer’s damage garbage

He doesn’t though? Mercy can still be effective with Genji around, and her mobility gives her tools to escape him.

Absolutely. Outplay potential makes the game exciting, like when a Zen outplays a Tracer trying to flank him with a few orbs to the head. That’s exciting and rewarding gameplay.

Rock paper scissors is not thrilling or inspiring gameplay at all. It has to go, but sadly I don’t think it’s going to change.

Exactly, Brig “outplays” Tracer (and poor 76) by never having to actually land stun combo on her, or even directly engage her in a fight. The rally, armor pack, and passive healing does that by itself.

Get outplayed Tracer mains.

Exactly. But that can be addressed in the future with new heros and reworking existing heros. The solution isn’t making all heros equal in 1v1 like some one-tricking players want it. The existence of the hero switching functionality alone suggests rock-paper-scissors.

this game is about hero swapping why should hard counter be a problem?

Ana vs Winston is usually my go too. Soon as Winston drops bubble Ana loses all value. A big reason why she was unheard of during dive.

This was a fundamental issue with Overwatch’s core design. Everybody wants to one-trick and Blizzard doesn’t want to let you do that. Why? It makes their balancing much, much easier.

Still not a hard counter though. Brig doesn’t automatically force a change. She certainly makes it harder for Tracer to do their typical Tracer things, but Tracer is fully capable of playing around Brig. She’s a soft counter at best.
