Forget everything I said below, Blizzard completely destroyed Sombra with these nerfs, the LoS is completely broken and the 2s cooldown is just a huge overkill that makes it even worse and it happens at the WORST times where taking damage is just out of your control, Sombra is not a Hacker anymore with these changes, and the video proof lately has proved it.
Fix Sombra, Blizzard. She’s Broken.
I was a bit iffy about Hack going on CD when interrupted since before people were saying it should go on it’s full 8s CD which sounded ridiculous, but 2s seems fair and reasonable since Hack is very quick and this will give people better time to react.
Also glad that they’re fixing the LoS/0.1s delay issues since it did seem a bit unfair, and even I was quite annoyed when I intentionally wouldn’t teleport away because I thought the Hack beam would break since I’m out of the enemy Sombras LoS and it still went through so I basically screwed myself.
These changes seem good and will hopefully sort out all the complaints since this will fix all the issues that most people including the Pro Players were complaining about while at the same time keeping her 0.65s Hack Speed so she’s still very reliable, it’ll just make it more risky, and with good positioning there’s not much to worry about so it’s pretty fair now._
(To those of you who say the 2s CD will ruin Sombra):
It won’t, okay? I’m sorry but if you’re letting a Torbjorn turret, or a D.Va stop you from casting an ability that takes 0.65s over and over then you clearly need to learn how to destroy a turret first, get better positioning from the D.Va, or just play somebody else, sorry to say this but Sombra isn’t always going to be the answer.
It’s not going to be as bad as people think. It just gives people a bit more of a chance to counter getting hacked. It never felt good getting around a corner to interrupt the hack but still getting hacked anyway. Good sombras will still position themselves to hack whatever they need to.
It’s not too bad, as a sombra main myself, people are talking like this is a national tragedy.
I think it’d be nice to get an additional damage buff though, seeing as they just nerfed her only offensive ability.
2s is not fair at all. Imagine a torb turret far away being slammed by the hammer all the time, or a dva spamming her bullets. You will never be able to pull off a hack in this situation. In some games this nerf will be a complete and total destruction of Sombra.
The nerf is dumb, however it doesn’t really affect the way I play sombra much most the time. Its still dumb. Why not revert the hack time? A cooldown just makes her feel clunky all over again.
She is like the only character that normal ability goes on cool down for getting hit out of it.
Since when do sombras stick around for a while after their hack gets interrupted in the first place? The whole point is to get behind someone undetected so they can’t react fast enough. It’s not like sombra goes up to a dva and fights her to death if the hack gets interrupted. She recalls and tries again.
I’m happy with them because the nerfs still keep Sombra at her same state of viability, you just can’t be as careless as before and the LoS/0.1s delay issue was really unfair to the enemy considering Hack is so fast and that basically made it quicker since even when the Hack should have stopped it went through anyways, basically made it take no skill.
2 seconds in a fast and spammy game like Overwatch is excessive. 1 second is the maximum it should ever be, like Defense Matrix, and even then it would feel debilitating.
If they don’t want Sombra to spam hacks with no regard to it being maybe interrupted, they should put some effort in for a better solution like maybe giving her some kind of damage threshold or a resource meter for hack. Instead they chose the ez route and slapped a cooldown on it.
If you have good positioning which you should, then neither of those should be a problem. Maybe in the middle of a team fight sure, but you also have a gun, use it or teleport away to get a better attempt.
Even if you get behind enemy lines, if there is a turret he will almost always focus you. I don’t know how the turret is designed but other Sombra mains will certainly be able to confirm that a turret almost always will target you. Even when he is already engaging. So good luck hacking someone when there’s a turret in the game. You’d always have to take down the turret first, which in a lot of cases is not possible.
due to Dva’s big hitbox, even when a hack attempt fail I would still engage her. She then mostly makes the mistake to defense matrix, leaving a widow to hack. With this nerf Dva can be sure of a 2s hack free time.
This would mean that everey time hack gets canceled, Sombra has to get out of the fight. So the character that was actually designed to make it a 6v5 will now have to flee and make it basically a 5v6 instead in certain cases. Ok…
