Hanzo arrow hitbox

Go talk to a devloper.

And congratulations on winning your imaginary medal of argument winning.

But back on topic, the problem isn’t Hanzo’s projectile hit box size, I think it’s the speed. I may be wrong, but he has the fastest projectile in the game (sans Mei’s icicle but she has a delay when firing). It’s even faster then Ana’s unscoped rifle.

Man… I work with a damn game developer.

I agree, I think the reason people hate playing against Hanzo is that the projectile is too fast to react to (much like hitscan shots are too “fast”), and yet it behaves like the projectile it is and has a more forgiving hitbox.

Hanzo is a projecile hero. He is not hitscan. His arrows have travel time which is a disadvantage to hitscan which hits instantly once you shoot. This results in arrows being able to miss even when he was directly aiming at you, because once the arrow reaches its destination, you might have moved away.

That fact makes projectiles inferior to hitscan. To compensate, the projectiles get its own hitbox which extend the size of hitscan bullets.
Hanzos projectiles used to be pretty big but the devs reduced its hitbox and compensated with a faster projectile speed to make him more consistent.

Since when? The patch notes from my memory only enstated a speed increase.

Dont have the date but i think it was late 2016? Or was it 2017?
They reduced his arrow hitbox by 33%.

Fair enough, I don’t have any direct date or proof so I can’t really prove you wrong.

I wonder though if that happened before or after it was said that he had one of the smallest projectiles.

Nah this nerf made them one of the smallest. I recall that as i was playing Hanzo early on, but dropped him later for Sombra.

Why are so many people so misinformed about hitboxes?

Hitboxes AS A WHOLE are very big.
Even hero models are big, not even talking about hitscan/projectiles.

Ah, ok. That makes sense.

Appreciate the information

Yeah early on people were complaining alot and created tree trunk memes for Hanzo. The devs picked up on that.

Yeah, I remember that. I loved those memes :joy:

Well, coming back to this, I decided to provide evidence that Ana’s projectile is smaller than Hanzo’s. It’s time to prove you (and Geoff I guess) wrong.

You can clearly see me shooting on the yellow part with Ana and not hitting shots at the highest point of the head hitbox which is at the center. Hanzo’s arrows hit even when aiming on grey, let alone yellow.

Even developers make mistakes. You can’t just take their word as gospel. From my experience on Ana and Hanzo, I hypothesized that her unscoped left click shots were smaller - and then I confirmed it.

cough only good hanzos cough

Hmm perhaps they were not including hers as the smallest projectile due to its hitbox on allies or they changed its size since that comment was made, but you’ve proven your point I concede defeat

To all the non-believers, here’s your evidence.
Just look at that extremely forgiving hitbox hanzo has.
It’s even worse if you compare it to other dps heroes.

I wouldn’t say it’s the hitbox by itself, but the speed to size ratio is what is so good about it.

It’s basically impossible for me to test, so I don’t know for sure, but it’s possible the hitbox also extends throughout the arrow shaft itself, which would lend itself to take up a lot more space as it’s travelling through the air. But it’s basically impossible to test, so I dunno. That could be a contributing factor to some of the “well I thought I dodged it, but it hit me anyway” kind of scenarios.

All projectiles in this game are GIANT.

Zen orbs require so much aim to track 5 headshots with alt fire, but let’s face it- no one is missing body shots in close range.
