Hey guys.
Beneath the Japanese writing in Hanamura map, which has the blood stains of Genji on it, there are two swords. Are those Hanzo’s?
It is implied that they are Hanzo’s, yes.
And I know he left his Wakizashi there after killing Genji supposedly, but why would he do that ? Is there a reason behind it?
After striking down Genji, Hanzo swore to never use the sword again, and became an archer (according to his lines in Heroes of the Storm).
Nice! I found these:
- Samuro: A true warrior must always be ready for battle. Are you?
-
Hanzo: I swore never to wield a sword again. My skill with a bow is more than enough.
After his attempt to kill his [brother], Hanzo abandoned his clan and swore to never wield a sword again, and would rely only on his skills with the bow.
i find the lack of a proper traditional tsuba on the Genjis swords to be very annoying…
Where is the pretty inlay work?!!! where is the craftmanship!
his sword looks like a ugly cyberpunked cheap lousy Guntō from WW2!
mass produced boring crap with no artistry!
the Shimada clan must be very poor or not very old not to have any proper swords to their name.
That or they lack any sense of tradition…
either way i am disappointing!
(as someone who tinkers with blacksmithing and metal working and takes an interest in such things… also don’t get me started on the implausible size and design of forges in various games… i personally think all games companies should send their art teams on mandatory field trips to real traditional smiths for a day)
Genji’s actual sword is in Nepal, actually. It’s got a set up just like hanzos. Next to it is a photo of him and hanzo when they were younger. It’s in a room with a mattress on the floor, with a big ol painting and more.
Also, part of Hanzo’s sword just a little part is missing, any ideas why?
Likely from the battle. They just wanted to show it was “used” before being left there
But isn’t that unlikely for a hand-made katana sword to become like that? Unless two great swords had a crash of some kind.
Likely, but that was like a crazy anime weeb duel. Or Blizz does not really get katanas and how they are made and just damaged it for story telling reasons
Asians aren’t magic, steel is steel and it breaks and chips, Katana notoriously chip at the edge due to their diferential hardening, the belly of the blade, the sharp part, is harder and the back is softer, you can see it in the hamon, the wavey bit on the blade.
well they are a criminal empire that had one brother muder the other because he didn’t want to do more crimes, so…
I wouldn’t say honor or workmanship is valued highly by anyone in the clan besides Hanzo. At most Sojiro probably cared, as seen in his refusal to join Talon, but he’s been dead, and Hanzo’s been gone, for many many years. The new clan management probably only wants the money from all of their illegal trade deals, and all the swords and such scattered about the castle are unlikely to be recognized as fakes by foreign buyers, and thus will still act as proper displays of power and intimidation.
But if you’re talking about Genji’s sword in the present, his current sword and body are Overwatch produced, I’m not entirely surprised that a largely European based organization wouldn’t have the utmost knowledge on Japanese swordcrafting techniques
